I reckon I've done and said a lot of dumb and hurtful things in my past, but I don't think I am that guy now and I strive not to be.

I absolutely encourage course corrections: if you find dumb shit in my past or present, point it out to me.

And if you were ever on the receiving end, I'm sorry.

The Sega CD was a waste of time but the hardware was gorgeous, no doubt.
One of the sexiest Japanese ads I've seen for the Mega CD - the Hyper Attachment, according to the copy. Oof. 😳

I love the double-stack MD MK1 + MCD combo. 💜

If you're into building your own arcade controls, I've recently reviewed some buttons and a stick from Punk Workshop:

The PWS V2 Buttons are great!

The PWS Joystick (Silicone Edition) is fine, but deeply weird!

Absolutely this. The first years of Dilbert were fantastic. Scott Adams dug his own grave and leapt into it, for sure. Good riddance. But for a while Dilbert was really good stuff.
Early Dilbert could be incredibly on point at times, and it's important to acknowledge that rather than pretend it was always terrible.

Scott Adams getting high on his own hype, emerging from his hate chrysalis, then doubling down on it, was very odd. He poisoned his own legacy well before death.

Throwing this out to the wider community, 'cause I'm stumped.

My PC Engine LT has a failure in the power section. I get power right up to the main regulator that supplies 5V to the rest of the system. It's not getting power.

More details here:

I'd love some help.

In the past week I've recapped a PC Engine, Core Grafx, Core II, TurboGrafx 16, Vistar 16, and a MegaDrive. And a while before that, a PCE Shuttle.

They all work after the job, which makes me very happy. Decades more life ahead of them all. ^__^

<looks accusingly at PCE LT>

Motherfucker.

If bsky won't let me have DMs because of Australian laws that don't fucking apply to bsky, then why do they let people send me DMs I can't read?

What a stupid fucking timeline.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

I like to dig into pixel fonts in video games, and one of my nemeses was Cave's later releases. The ones with all the awful pre-rendered graphics. They have beautiful fonts.

I finally got into the graphics on these games and I wrote about them.

Mushihimesama, Dodonpachi, Ibara, etc.
64 Pixel Fonts: Cave’s CV1000 Games
Some of Cave's most memorable - and expensive - games ran on hardware that didn't do much, but did it very well. And it had fonts! Oh, so many fonts.

We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

Fucking use @vivaldi.com ya dingbats. The old guard, user focused privacy-first customizable browser with their own Mastodon community and a built in RSS client.

if you’re not an artist with experience in studio environments it might be hard to appreciate just how much genAI feels like a conman claiming to have made a gun that kills artists and every ceo lunging for it and pulling the trigger a few times

learning the gun doesn’t really work isn’t a comfort

Why would anyone want to influence people?
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.
