Organizing my connectors bin. Arcade hardware is so much easier to work with if you have the right parts and some good tools.

In this image, parts for Namco, Capcom, Sega and SNK machines and games. And more!

While fiddling with the Aleck64 I finally ordered the parts to hook up the P2 buttons. 25 years ago I bought the panel with half the wires missing.

Now I can put it back in storage knowing it will work should I suffer a head injury and want to play it again.

A couple of decades ago I created a 'font engine' that allows anyone to create text images using 179 (and counting) fonts from arcade (and etc) games.

We peaked in 1985.

We live in an age where it takes less time to design and print some parts than it does to order one for overnight delivery.

This one allows a Seimitsu P=50 stick (LS-32, Nobi, etc) to fit a 4-post panel, with room for an internal dust washer.

Solving every problem with a 3D print.

Total time to design: 5 mins. Print time: 20 mins (super fine detail for legibility).

Should help with the harness jungle in the arcade cabs. 😊

Auspost: what are you shipping?
me: Video game
Auspost: A Dreamcast game?
me: Sure
Auspost: A permit is required for dangerous goods.

Auspost suggests 'Dreamcast game' and then gives me the appropriate warning. Like sure, the Dreamcast wasn't a smash success, but come on.

Discord kicked me out of the PC app because I won't submit to their age verification system.

Motherfuckers I am old enough to know "we totally promise no one's storing your ID" is foreshadowing the 'we inadvertently stored all your data and then we got hacked' announcement.

Building off Alamone's work a few years ago, I built a version of Seibu Kaihatsu's Viper: Phase 1 with both original and New Version games in one cartridge.

It's not a particularly difficult mod, only six chips, a few wires, and no changes to the original PCB.

Max Headroom. Too early to do the subject matter justice but they tried hard and set my synapses aflame with every episode.

Coming at you live and direct.

He satellites globally!

Bitmoji has gotten rid of the charming avatar style in favour of the soulless metaverse style of bland faces, and I fucking hate it. Why must every change be worse?

Printing up a customer order of Seibu Kaihatsu cartridge shells. I made a design that protects the board from accidental touches and prevents board flex which pops solder joints too easily.

And they look good too! IMHO. 😊

Erasing a bunch of old chips, putting them to a far better purpose than they were originally given.

It's been a long time since a drew anything. But suddenly, Kirsty!

The prints on my Bambu A1 started going wrong. At first, missing lines on external walls. Then gaps in surfaces. Finally, it just stopped printing entirely. Prints would crack apart rather than come off the plate.

Turns out the extruder gear had worn out. Replacing it solved the problem.

I made this assembly yesterday, a 3d printed assembly that puts a faux coin in the existing coin slot of a candy cab and rings in credits with a press.

@locomalito.com mentioned Raizing's Sorcer Striker and I realized I had never added its font to my font engine.

So I added it!

Now with 179+ fonts!

MameHaze, a long time MAME dev, just deleted their account because of the UK's age verification that bsky is sort of forced to do, and is going back to Twitter.

I get it, the new rules are dumb, but Twitter? Ugh.

It's like complaining your new car smells funny and jumping into a sewer.

I've been writing up capacitor lists for a some 16-bit consoles recently. Tonight I added the NEC TurboBooster, and recently the Sega Nomad and CDX.

While doing the caps on a Samsung Saturn power supply today I found one of them had just started to leak. Lucky timing!

Today I made up a capacitor list for the Sega CDX / MultiMega, and while taking it apart successfully for the first time (the last time, 25 years ago ish, was aborted early in the attempt because TRICKY) I figured a guide to disassembling this cool console might be useful.

So here it is!

I've never seen this game before, so I ripped the font and added it to the arcade font engine!

Now with 175+ fonts!!

Hori's Fighting Stick Alpha ships with the really great Hayabusa mechanism, but sometimes I want something a little more crisp feeling, so I whipped up an adaptor plate to allow the use of Seimitsu's 40mm mechanisms, like the SELS-70X and the LS-56.

Print, and enjoy!

Just in case you happen to have one of Capcom's CPS Changer systems kicking around, and you're thinking "I should replace the capacitors in that thing" but you don't want to open it up first...

Well I made the list for you:
