It’s duḥkha in the sense of feeling the need to pursue or feeling the need to pull back. Being aware of just what you’re doing is always the hard part (as you know well)

All day, I’ve been listening to Holy Terror and adjacent stuff, and doing scene dives and scene reminders is another way I love to spend my time with music!

Second, I’ve always listened to a lot of music. But I ramped up the quantity to cope with changes to my body that made me give up running, lifting, and bike riding. The exploration helps me to manage my mood in ways that repeated listening never does. But I know it’s duḥkha whether I do it or not

There are two more things I’d like to add. First, deep patterns of human differences shape the urge to explore, and some people can and do listen actively to immense quantities of music. But it’s also easy to fool yourself into thinking that you’re listening actively when you really aren’t. +

I appreciate this post and the op, and others like it. I listen to lots of new stuff. It’s good to have people helping you ask yourself “why” and to think about other ways.

You can’t have every aesthetic experience. There is joy and community in connecting over new things. And, things you miss.

Y’all I am by no means saying you should stop discovering new music 😭 I’m simply suggesting being intentional about which albums you listen to. Don’t just let an algorithm make a playlist for you. Buy a damn cd/tape/vinyl. Listen so much that you want the t shirt

I sort of agree. But I’m also a deeply curious person, I don’t trust others to do discovery for me, and I want to find new things that I’ll love. So I listen to a lot of new stuff. But I also make sure to make time to listen to older favorites often, and I frequently do runs through catalogs

I sometimes forget to add things to my list that are also released on fiadh…but it’s in my queue

We were pretty close to right next to each other!
neuronaraka.bsky.social
It’s Skällar I guess…
neuronaraka.bsky.social
It was incredible, and in a small church basement with no stage
neuronaraka.bsky.social
Seeing Scowl and Nuovo Testamento plus a couple of other bands

Skäller, Cloud Rat, and Catharsis all killed it tonight. I left part way through Thou to make it home at a decent time. But they were doing their Thou thing too!
neuronaraka.bsky.social
You transitions from consumer to producer?
neuronaraka.bsky.social
Yeah, I’m pretty much committed to buying something every time I go out for this reason. I try to do tapes if they are available, or patches. But it’s been a lot of shirts lately
neuronaraka.bsky.social
I really need to stop buying shirts every time I go out to see bands…but they are all so good…
neuronaraka.bsky.social
I don’t LastFM, but mine are Catharsis (seeing them tonight), Oathbreaker, Terzij de Horde, Godflesh, and OvO
neuronaraka.bsky.social
Oooh let me know how the book is!

Bleak AF. When that cafe scene hits, it hits hard…and then it doesn’t stop until the final scene, which is a seriously dark note to end on
neuronaraka.bsky.social
It held a spot in my heart because it showed at the dollar theater for the Saturday morning movies (which I got to go to even though we were not doing well economically). But when I saw it as an adult, there was nothing worth holding onto, and I’ve skipped all of the reboots for that reason

He did tons of covers for a while!
neuronaraka.bsky.social
Hell yeah, see you tomorrow night then!
neuronaraka.bsky.social
It’s one of those days
Darkest Hour, Deliver Us

You coming out to the Catharsis, Cloud Rat, and Thou show tomorrow?
