According the article, the Everett Police still have not told the parents why they arrested their 13-year-old child, nor why they handed him over to ICE while his parents waited in the station to pick him up.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

I just saw The Librarians today at WNED Studios as part of the Buffalo International Film Festival. If you haven't seen it and are against book banning (which you should be if you're my friend), you should go see it as soon as it is available in your area. Infuriating that this is happening in 2025!

The deportation order is based on Vedam’s conviction for murder—a crime he did not actually commit and for which he’s now been wholly exonerated. He entered the US at 9 months old and was a legal permanent resident before his conviction. We are so, so, so far from the light of justice.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

Since Freddy will be off to hopefully be adopted soon, I went by today to visit hum. Freddy is the sweetest cat. He jumped right up in my lap and headbutted me, and started purring. I love him! He better get a good home. Would take him if I could.

Some if you may remember Freddy from last month. They built him an outdoor predator proof house and got him on a list for a rescue. He had to wait a month, but next week, he will go to the vet, the foster, and then the adoption windows.

DEVELOPING: ICE agents pulled a U.S. citizen out of her car at gunpoint — after crashing into her vehicle. They dragged her across the pavement and held her in detention for hours. Her brother says she’d just recovered from surgery.

America is in a human rights crisis.
