It’s worse than this… he only likes Makers because he thinks the wax seal is “cool”
This is far and away my pettiest Tim Kaine gripe but the Senator’s advance staff always deliver a bottle of Maker’s Mark that is for him only to fundraising events so he doesn’t have to do toasts with the cheap beer and wine the hosts provide and that always really irked me

The press might want to consider that when a company says it’s firing people and moving to AI it might just be lying to goose a quarterly report and that it would’ve fired those people regardless

If this is true for primaries then why hold primaries?
I cannot believe there are still people in my mentions arguing that boycotting an election because the candidates aren’t addressing your issue is a way to get them to pay attention.

You’d think people might’ve learned from the Fetterman debacle but…

I’ve heard multiple people, including journalists, say that AI skeptics just need to keep using the products until they develop an appreciation for them. They should ask chatgpt to explain sunk cost fallacy

It is, in fact, a reference to Dune. Specifically, the moment when the machines draw on the work of Althusser and Austin to posit a theory of gender that breaks from French feminism and revolutionizes the field of Rhetorical Studies in North America.

“the constitution forbids race conscious remedies” would be news to the people who wrote the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments
Griem goes there, arguing in response to Justice Jackson that there can be no race-conscious remedy absent a finding of intentional discrimination.

So they want me to pay so that I can watch? Like, is the view better from the app? Is there free popcorn?

I suspect that Newsom is going to be the Democrats’ De Santis in that he’s profoundly unlikable and becomes more so with repeated exposure (albeit for different reasons)

Zero engagement with LOTR
Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

If in aggregate under certain ideological presumptions technology is a leveler, maybe you have a hard question

But it’s far easier to answer if you ask who is most exposed to technology’s more oppressive applications and/or negative externalities

By using reason to understand his emotions, the 17th-century philosopher Baruch Spinoza “canceled his cancelers where it really mattered: in his own mind,” Arthur C. Brooks writes. His techniques reveal how to prevent emotional hijack:

The thing, too, about saying Dems should run pro-abortion candidates in red states, or abandon "woke" and trans rights, is that it's easy to suggest *someone else* in the coalition sacrifice core protections.

But which core protections are white male Dems willing to sacrifice?

The only way to save America is to be supportive of people who hypocritically exist
Saving America from Trump and preserving our democracy explicitly requires that people who voted for Trump change their mind. Which in turn requires that those who didn’t vote for Trump show grace and empathy to those whose change of heart came from being hurt by the guy they voted for…

Someone should write a letter about this… maybe even let Jeet sign it
This is the biggest attack on free speech since the McCarthy era but it also has significantly less popular consensus behind it than the second Red Scare. It's being done on behalf of a minority faction led by the most unpopular president in modern history. Organizing against this can win.
