(At first, it seems Wimsey is helpfully posing—until you see how he actually just wants me to stop staring in awe and FEED HIM.)
I've considered it, and I'm not convinced there's a good PG substitute for the word mindfuck (noun).

See, I tell people this, and they just laugh at me for not eating green things. I eat the green things that actually taste good. Lettuce, like celery, is basically just crunchy water.
here's some real talk for you. lettuce is nonsense. there's not even calories in it and it's not like it tastes good. real pointless entity imo

"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Down with the sex predators, wherever they are.

This is so awful. Stories like this are why I won't be sending work to any MRM magazine in the future. It's not as hard for me to say that because I didn't grow up reading the Big Three; they were never my dream. But the short story market is ... not large, and every loss hurts.
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

I'm sorry, are we just not allowed to have pain medication now? Is it like heal yourself with Jesus and the power of positive thinking or nothing?
JD Vance calls ibuprofen "useless medication" and implies it's not "necessary, safe and effective."

I remain amused that the recent Discourse is how I finally found out what happened in the last Bond movie. Where the fuck was I in 2021? 😂

I don't think I realized a nonfiction book about politics could be so funny and so completely unapologetic until I read Allow Me to Retort: A Black Guy's Guide to the Constitution by Elie Mystal. Genuinely found it inspirational.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Oh, I don't know, ANY Democratic senator who's actually willing to fucking fight? And if you're not, why are we bothering to keep you around?
JAKE TAPPER: Do you still have confidence in Chuck Schumer as leader of the Senate?

BERNIE SANDERS: If Schumer steps down, who is going to take his place?

Convincing you to read my short story with the first sentence (or the first section, honestly, because I'm a cheating cheater who cheats).

I'm not actually much of a wine person—I would literally have to gift away all the reds—but I admit to being sorely temped by this Star Trek Wines Advent calendar.

WE JUST GAVE YOU A VICTORY. People stood up all across the country and voted blue, clearly asking the Democrats in power to keep fighting for them—and were betrayed less than a week later. You already have the audacity to talk about next November? How dare you?
The sooner we get past internal recriminations and back to fighting united, the better off we all are — the likelier our victory next November.

Award eligibility posts have apparently already started, so

"Four Questions With Something Like God" was my only story published this year. It's interactive fiction about what comes After, and I'd love more people to read it. I'm rather proud of this one.

Apologies in advance—I will be reposting.

Some actual great news in the midst of ... everything else.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court DENIES former county clerk Kim Davis's request for the justices to take up her longshot bid to overturn 2015's Obergefell v. Hodges marriage equality decision. No justice even writes about the request.

Okay, officially taking a break from Bluesky tonight before I pass out from rage, but for the record ...

No Kings includes the motherfuckers who serve them. And until proven otherwise, I'm counting every Democratic senator in that group—but especially this one.

The gall. The fucking gall.
Agree.

Sen Hassan, asked what will happen if Republicans don't carry out the deal, "Well, shame on them."

This is not what people were mobilizing for on Oct 18.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

Tomorrow, we'll see how establishment Democrats manage to yet again miss the message and fumble the ball, but for tonight at least—
