This is where I live, and I'm sorry but I laughed at small-town open-mindedness. Glad they mention the fire insurance issue. We're under very high wildfire risk. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/15/r...

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Kristi Noem, while governor of South Dakota, supplemented her roughly $130,000 salary by secretly accepting $80,000 donated to a political nonprofit she was affiliated with, records show.

Love this outfit on Daniel Day-Lewis. DDL has a reputation for being a real clothes nerd, having studied bespoke shoemaking under Stefano Bemer, knowing his way around Savile Row, and getting guernseys from little-known makers. He wears his own clothes to photoshoots.

Do you suppose Mike Johnson is a pedophile himself, whether or not he's on Epstein's list? He's about the right age to have been one of the victims, maybe that's what's going on.

My heart aches for the 60 people killed eight years ago today at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas—and the hundreds more who were injured. No family should ever carry this pain.

Great reading last night of Dangerous Women at the Sacramento Poetry Center. Dangerous, tender, and hilarious. Poetry as solace and political resistance. So much fun, too. @moiramagneson.bsky.social @patricia-caspers.bsky.social @kimshuck.bsky.social
A gray-haired woman in tortoiseshell glasses and a blue patterned dress reads a poem at the microphone in front of a wall of books. A black music stand with symmetrical holes in it is in the foreground. A row of four laughing female poets standing together in front of a wall of books at the Sacramento Poetry Center after their reading. The microphone and black music stand/podium are in front of them. Moira Magneson: A woman with short brown hair, a blue shirt, and red glasses reads from her new book of poems at the microphone. The book's back cover is orange and front cover is dark brown. A wall of books on shelves is behind her, and a black music stand with holes in it is in the foreground. Tricia Caspers.
