Immigration is good and we need to say so. It is in our best interest when people want to come to this country to make a better life for themselves. My family story is the shtelt to the American dream in three generations. Other people should have this opportunity, too.

Trump on immigrants: "They send up their worst people. They send up people that are criminals. They send up people from jails. And the best ones they send are people that don't work very hard and that are on a social form of welfare."

Eric Trump: "We're saving Christianity. We've saving God. We've saving the family unit. We're saving this nation. I mean, DEI is out of the window, Benny. You no longer have Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the national anthem. You no longer have Budweiser going woke as hell. All of this is dead."

Good discussion with @gregsargent.bsky.social on No Kings and the right to protest: "They’re trying to turn it into something really evil. But that’s because they’re scared of it, and they know it turns public opinion... I think they should be worried, because nothing they’re doing is popular."

Note that Elon Musk and Peter Thiel are doing _exactly_ what Trump falsely accuses George Soros of doing. They fund and finance the operations of terrorist groups in the UK and Germany among other countries. Soros is strictly involved in bona fide philanthropy. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

the actual story here, which the media never talks about, is that police in this country have become a discrete right-wing political operation. the story isn't about cops leaving (they're lying about that), it's about the police trying to exert influence over elections.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

I see this dynamic in the forums for Scouting leaders—people grousing when Scouting paraphernalia isn't made in the U.S.; people complaining about how expensive the uniforms are; people boasting about the deals they scored on cheap supplies at Amazon/Walmart/Temu; total failure to connect the dots.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

The Catholic Chapel and Center at Yale has added these (and more) quotations from various papal teachings about care and concern for immigrants to the windows outside its main meeting room. This is the kind of catechesis we need more of in the U.S. church.
A window pane with this text: "...No one would exchange his country for a foreign land if his own afforded him the means of living a decent and happy life." —Pope Leo XIII, Rerum Novarum (1891), no. 47 "Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, living in exile in Egypt to escape the fury of an evil king, are, for all times and all places, the models and protectors of every migrant, alien, and refugee of whatever kind, who, whether compelled by fear of persecution or by want, is forced to leave his native land, his beloved friends and relatives, his close friends, and to seek a foreign soil." —Pope Pius XII, Exsul Familia Nazarethana (1962), Apostolic Constitution "The poverty and misfortune with which immigrants are stricken are yet another reason for coming generously to their aid... It is necessary to guard against the rise of new forms of racism or xenophobic behavior, which attempt to make these brothers and sisters of ours scapegoats for what may be difficult local situations..." John Paul II, World Migration Day (1996) "Migrants present a particular challenge for me, since I am the pastor of a church without frontiers, a Church which considers herself a mother to all. For this reason, I exhort all countries to a generous openness which, rather than fearing the loss of local identity, will prove capable of creating new forms of cultural synthesis." Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium (2013)
