The timing of this post and the reference to the murders being "due to the anger ... caused others through … TDS" suggests strongly that Trump believed that **one or more of his supporters** had committed the murders—and that they had committed the atrocity **justifiably**.

I've said a number of times that gun culture is effectively a form of ritual human sacrifice.

In exchange for "freedom," a governing majority coalition sacrifices random citizens (and sometimes even including themselves) to the Gun God.

This will be interesting to follow. Brussels/ Europe sees the relationship with China increasingly through the lens of Russia's war against Ukraine - and if Beijing does not change course (and wording) here, it will harm the relationship even more sustainably.
EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels today - China is on the agenda. I wrote about growing anxiety over China's rising support for Russia on Friday. That'll form the crux of a lunchtime discussion. Given the sensitivity, no phones or aides permitted.

Multiple sources confirm increase in Beijing backing before China-Russia ties are discussed by ministers from the EU’s 27 members on Monday.

Have you noticed how “corruption” is a constant media buzzword in articles about Ukraine, yet rarely comes up when discussing the current administration? Many things the Trump administration did would be considered exorbitant even by today’s Ukrainian “corruption standards”.

Because deterrence is a “peace strategy,” nuclear
weapons offer an ideal deterrent capability because they tend to elimi-
nate optimism about a positive war outcome, thereby preserving the
peace.

If the goal is to prevent war - and it must be - yet we cannot rely on diplomacy alone, the next best thing and a necessary backstop in uncertain times is deterrence.

Nuclear weapons provide the most credible (retaliatory) deterrence at affordable cost. Especially against nuclear weapon states.

No one can calculate with any degree of certainty how many casualties and what damages a conventional war between Finland and the Kremlin would cause.

But *everyone* can calculate a fairly good estimate of what even a simple nuke detonating over Moscow would do. nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/?&kt...

In contrast, #nuclear weapons are not (really) contestable, and they are far more certain.

It is near impossible to have a 100% effective defence against nukes, and even one "leaker" could cause biblical destruction.

*And* these damages are fairly easy to calculate. Even with public models.

This is a superb paper (open access too!) that explains clearly the difference between a conventional and a #nuclear #deterrent. Why nuclear weapons are superior - and why they are, perhaps counterintuitively, *defensive* weapons.
