Finally I can share this here in all its glory. Besides conveying the vibe of my book perfectly, I also resonate with this design personally more than I knew I could reasonably expect. I’m obsessed. I’m in love with it. I hope you love it, too.

I'd actually go further and say that the "STEM"/"humanities" split is a meaningless and fake one. Mathematics and programming have as mucv in common with music and writing as with biochemistry or paleontology.
I should also note that I am someone who has humanities degrees and who *also* has ended up really enjoying doing a lot of STEM-Type-Work professionally: I’m a big fan of both.

And I refuse to play along with the idea that one is superior to the other.
I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.

they're executing moms and nurses in the street. they're using preschoolers as bait. they're stealing people's dads and grandmas and children. they're tear gassing babies. they're staking out schools. there is no remedy but abolition. any proposal that doesn't start there is an act of violence.

One thing that irks me: people keep calling the folks on the streets in Minneapolis protestors. They are not generally there to protest, they are there to observe and document. This is the product of organizing and mutual aid. It is telling that these acts of citizenship are seen as protest!

The official policy of the government of the United States of America is that they will murder anyone they want, that they will tell any lie necessary to justify that murder, and that no one who resists them has any rights they are bound to respect.

The newest video shows very clearly that they attacked him for coming to an aid of a woman that the agents pushed, and then executed him while he was immobilized. Everything the government has said, like with Good, has been a complete lie.

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

I argued that communities targeted by ICE should be granted citizenship immediately. This is both a matter of justice and an imperative if we're going to crush fascism.

Fascism thrives where there are groups that lack full rights. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/for-immigr...

Really, spreading covid was one thing when we didn’t know how to stop it, but continuing for years after we’ve known that combo masks, vaccines and air purification work wonders together, why are we still behaving like we’re in the dark ages and have to catch this thing?

Gender affirming care for trans people is safe, effective, and has a lower regret rate (4%) than almost any major medical procedure. It saves lives. These are facts. The right's talking-points are recycled "they are coming for your children!" scare tactics well over fifty years old at this point.
New research finds trans teens have high satisfaction with gender care
The survey published in JAMA Pediatrics showed that trans teens taking puberty blockers or hormones had very low rates of regret.

Borrowing from the library (physical or digital!) is free and supports authors and their careers, making it more likely they will get to publish more books. Pirating a book does none of this. It’s a purely selfish choice, and I wish people would just own that and stop pretending it’s noble.

Also to situate this in context, a bookstore selling more than 20 copies of my last book means they want to host an event with me for my next one. Each book purchase is hugely influential. If you can give the gift of books this season, do it please.

I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

... indie bookstore purchasing, because it keeps our books on the shelves and can turn bookstores into advocates for our work – and library borrows, because, again, that keeps it on the shelves for new readers to find. 14/
