If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Bellingcat’s contact email has always been a magnet for people with fairly unusual views; paranoid delusions, sprawling conspiracies, the works. But recently, the pattern has shifted, we’re seeing more and more emails clearly written with ChatGPT.

The UCP has invoked the notwithstanding clause pre-emptively. Again. This time to strip the Charter rights of trans children and adults.

This is sadly and entirely predictable from a populist government bent on removing checks on its power. 🧵

It is actually not mandatory for everyone else in the room when he does this to women in front of witnesses to just giggle nervously and ignore it. People could actually do the decent thing that one does in such circumstances, and tell him to back off, and take the consequences. I mean for starters.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

If u care about better cities for people in Ontario Canada, please pay attention to what Premier Ford is doing. Not only would his new bill block cities from building bike-lanes if they touch car lanes, he’s talking about imposing his own street standards & standardized official plans in EVERY city.

Teen Vogue did some terrific work. Great story here on Teen Vogue and how the Vogue/Conde Nast bosses seem like the "liberal" types who have been eager to use Trump's rise as a pretext to silence progressives/leftists they disagree with. www.cjr.org/feature/the-...

It's already past that point. If the academics aren't deciding what is taught, it's emphatically NOT a university.
I thought the earlier news from A&M was bad, but this is incredibly bleak. It’s close to the point of not having a functional university.
Message to all faculty: your expertise is no longer trusted or valued at this so-called “university.”

Buried in the Doug Ford govt's fall budget are changes that would remove parts of Wasaga beach from provincial protection. As I reported in August, those parts are 60% of the world’s longest freshwater beach and the main nesting area for the endangered piping plover: thenarwhal.ca/wasaga-beach...

This.
And, you know, reading their own reporting about arbitrary detainment and lack of rule of law.

“What a great vacation! Spent two weeks in ICE detention without food, water, not knowing if I would ever get home! Sooo relaxing!”
It is very weird when US media does not report on the safety concerns, which are top of the list for Canadians I know. Yeah we are also pissed off but we've been pissed off since January, the decline was not gonna keep declining based purely on "elbows up."
I legitimately think this article misses the mark, because Canadians are not avoiding travel out of some principled boycott of the USA over tariffs.

Canadians who are avoiding the USA are seeing images of masked government thugs kidnapping people and teargassing children.

Hell, from the 1980s all the way through the Harper years, support for relatively *high* immigration enjoyed a bipartisan, cross-ideological consensus in Canada. Only now, with this fucked up right-wing populist bullshit happening, have we started turning against it.
I kind of feel this way too. Conservatives used to be all about fiscal responsibility and low taxes and low immigration and all. Now they’re just cuckoo bananas.
