I think the only reason I kept my Twitter account up was to save my leadership thread. I wrote it while still in the Army and was one of my favorite tweets. May be time to deactivate the account, so am going to rewrite the thread here.
I thought the impact of Covid lockdowns on kids' education was hype.

Not anymore.

OU student Samantha here writes with the skill of a 7th grader.

Chef kiss.

25-26: "Putting a DC face on it."
Aka drive by, load an MPD dude in the truck and report it was a 'joint' and locally led patrol.

Tank commanders have an additional net.

Just discovered an amazing photo. Pictured is Capt. Kevin Corcoran, CO C/1/5 1st Cav Div working his radios in South Vietnam at some point in the first half of 1968. Photo was taken by a fellow soldier, Dean Sharp. You can feel the weight of command on his face. Some may identify with that look.

If I am ever a single issue voter, it's over war crimes.

It's a war crime if it comes from the province of War.
Otherwise, it's just murder.

“Introduce yourself with 5 concerts you've seen”

U2
REM
Social Distortion
Farm Aid (David Matthews, Willie Nelson, John Cougar, Hootie & Blowfish)
Five Finger Death Punch
“Introduce yourself with 5 concerts you've seen”

I’m not really the concert going type…

Nine Inch Nails
Blue Oyster Cult
The Who
Petra
The BB King Blues Festival, w/ The Fabulous Thunderbirds, George Thorogood, and (of course) BB King.
Introduce yourself with 5 concerts you've seen:
1. Tool
2. Tribe Called Quest/ Beastie Boys
3. Dinosaur Jr.
4. The Hives
5. Social Distortion
Honestly, I used to go to lots of concerts so it's all a mixed bag of music. Also, Social Distortion is the only show I've ever been kicked out of in my life

A billion minutes ago it was

Cannot stress strongly enough:

Zero of the people talking about it, including talking heads, and major news outlets, have any idea what vetting actually is or how any of it works.

I found this terribly sad. A young woman with her life ahead of her, and she becomes one of the last American victims of the Long War.

As a society we don't really care about journalism, or reading. We care about talking, making it emotionally engaging, and punditry. I don't see that changing but it would be cool if we could stop pretending otherwise.

The gun humpers won't admit it, but there is absolutely nothing you can do to defend yourself against someone who comes at you with complete tactical surprise. In a society awash with guns, you will never be able to fully prevent someone getting the drop on you. You cannot be on 24/7.

Eventually I walked away from it all, realizing there was no political constituency for the maddeningly desperate and passionate work we were doing. Heartbreaking work.
But one side was determined in not letting any more brown people in and the other pretended the debacle never happened.
It had to happen, and it was never going to be good, but the immediate partisan polarization of the issue while grassroots volunteers were desperately trying to get people out was so fucking maddening that it killed something inside me

Chief of Staff?

You know how the gun humpers are always like, "we don't need more laws, we need to enforce what we got."

Well, got news for you on government efficiency, it's been on the books for years and works just fine.
What agencies needed was resources.

Get smart on GPRA.

I took a journalist on a patrol with me in Iraq once.

Weeks later he wrote a piece where he described me as a "very intense officer."
Laurence Fishburne told me he liked my jacket when we were both waiting for a cab out front of The Plaza like 25 years ago

While we are debating the theoretical illegal military orders, it would seem that federal courts recently determining that national guard deployments were in fact illegal, should play a larger part of this conversation.

We can greatly exaggerate their success but we should not underestimate the damage it did to real people and families.
DOGE has been a FLOP, now disbanded 8 months early. Greatly exaggerating their "success" Trump and Musk lied to the taxpayers, never delivering a cent back to them. The real impact: slashing research, endangering public health, removing competent public servants, & creating chaos.
DOGE Disbanded: Elon Musk’s Cost-Cutting Project Quietly Ended
Musk said the initiative would save at least $1 trillion. But its website claims to have reached only $214 billion.
