Batman '89 really kicked open the doors for selling mature genre films as family friendly. Batman, Dick Tracey, The Addams Family, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc... were all surprisingly dark, nuanced features marketed as kiddie fare. After Batman Returns Hollywood course corrected.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

Ultimately, the death of US manufacturing is about this attitude. It's easy to say "buy american or stfu" because virtue signaling is free. But it's hard to actually sustain a business because many Americans simply don't want to pay what it costs to produce things ethically in this country

Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

The set and costume design alone are worth the price of admission. The songs are really good too. That doesn't make for a great film, but Dick Tracey is better than just a curio.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

This was my hang up for a while, but now my interpretation is Jack had been physically/sexually/emotionally abusive to Danny for a long time. What goes on in the Overlook is partly Danny’s subconscious forcing Wendy to see what Jack had been doing

Funny thing is progressives had nothing to say about Barbara Lee’s age or her getting into the 2024 primary. In fact many backed her Senate run and she was 77 at the time. So it’s not about age or money.

Sadly, I’ve come to realize this. We have such an inferiority complex that someone who carries himself like John Harbaugh (or Mike Elias) will never get fired. They got their jobs because they presented as erudite tacticians. Ownership is too afraid to call them out lest they look like fools

Just thinking that I’ve reached the age where my parent’s generation are dropping like flies. I’m going to another funeral on Saturday. I fell out of contact with them yet over the years but their loss resonates and I’m ever more alone in this world despite building a family of my own

Like I can’t talk to a parent and have them go: Oh that was just like you when you were little.

I don’t have a lot of childhood memories, I have, so I’m just like - unmoored.
