The same tech billionaires that reportedly limit their own kids‘ screen time and access to social media…
Watch what they do, not what they say
This is what is going to happen. There will be a thin top layer of non-digital universities — and all the tech billionaires will send their kids to those places.
Total success to the first college/university that pledges to be AI-free and brand it as an opportunity to receive a real education.

My employer, Dartmouth College, today boasts it's 1st Ivy "to launch AI at an institutional scale." It is doing this by partnering--"more than a collaboration"--with Anthropic, a company that stole the books of many faculty, me included, which many of us are suing.

I have to wonder if “data centers in space” (an objectively and obviously stupid idea) only exists as a narrative so that all of the kleptocrats who backed Trump and their private equity cronies can dump their Space X bags on retail before it goes under.

my default is to mock this, but on reflection it’s far better that they keep busy with stupid projects as a distraction from « making Europe great again »

In some ways this is a useful reminder that a lot of the talk of European security guarantees to Ukraine have the whole thing backwards. For more than three years Ukraine has been guaranteeing European security by fighting and degrading the Russian armed forces.

How long Britain could really fight for if war broke out tomorrow
In the event of a war, one expert suggests the British Army could be incapable of fighting effectively on land within weeks, once committed - though 'much depends on the form of the conflict'.

don’t you just love how the proposed cut, <cough> export tax on the Nvidia H200 chips has now increased from the 15% rate proposed a few months ago to 25%?!
almost as if that figure was just pulled out of thin air

The actual risk of civilisational erasure is Russian imperialism, which, if we don't manage to support Ukraine adequately, advances another country Westwards, and the many stranded effort to undermine European infrastructure and politics will intensify.
Europeans are waking up this morning to find the new US National Security Strategy (quietly) released. And what it has to say on Europe could not be clearer. On the „stark prospect of civilizations erasure“ for example. 👇

Rereading the wsj article on the corrupt dealings between the Trump admin and Russia, and this line provoked a grim laugh:

« Witkoff has tried to inspire Ukrainian officials with the idea of soldiers disarming to earn Silicon Valley-scale salaries operating American built AI data centers »
"By dangling multibillion-dollar rare-earth and energy deals, Moscow could reshape the economic map of Europe—while driving a wedge between America and its traditional allies"

Read this excellent @wsj.com account of the business deals behind the "peace"negotiations

Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine
The Kremlin pitched the White House on peace through business. To Europe’s dismay, the president and his envoy are on board.

A rare piece of positive news, if indeed the case.
(My entirely unoriginal takeaway from the WSJ report is that the Trump admin is orders of magnitude more corrupt than I thought possible)
Lost in the weeds of the WSJ report on Russian attempts to bribe the Trump administration with offers of bazillion dollar business deals are signs that various European intelligence services seem entirely aware of the details of conversations between Witkoff and the Russians

One of the more balanced discussions I’ve read about whether there is a bubble in AI investment or not. There’s a plausible scenario where future productivity enhancements in AI hardware render obsolete datacenter and hardware investments, all while AI use cases roll out

One more thought- it’s incredibly funny to this european bystander to observe the outright panic that some so-called moderate democrats feel at the prospect of a Mamdani win. The panic on the part of the billionaire class is the cherry on the cake
