The WV National guard troops could have spent Thanksgiving with their families.

Downtown DC could be free of military weapons.

Please, especially if you live in one of the seven states whose troops continue to occupy our city, urge the governors to send them home.
Trump doesn't care that his deployment of the National Guard is dangerous — but the governors deploying these Guard members should.

We're calling on Governors Ivey, Kemp, Landry, Reeves, DeWine, Lee, and Morrisey to recall their Guard members from DC. Email all seven: bit.ly/seven-governors

OK, seriously. This is wild.

Judge Jay Bybee (1) raises a new issue — the Domestic Violence Clause of the Constitution — to consider in the troop deployment cases; (2) extensively details its historical application;

Some days I get to see the emancipation proclamation for realsies (kind of)

This is the best part: all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free

I sometimes get weird flashbacks to the 2024 campaign. Just now I was setting up for a canvass launch in the daycare that was generously provided as a weekend space. I was so hopeful. What’s the opposite of PTSD, is it just nostalgia?

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

BREAKING: A D.C. Circuit three-judge panel administratively stays the D.C. District Court order that would end National Guard deployment in D.C. on December 11.

The order notes that it is not a ruling on the merits of DOJ's motion for a stay.

A roomful of old white people listening to an old white man slander Somali immigrants. Dictating from a place of privilege, ignorance, and imagined superiority.
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

An important win in the fight to protect our immigrant neighbors from indiscriminate enforcement! One more reason the Mayor must end MPD collaboration w/ICE. Next week I’ll publish a report from our human rights roundtable & intro legislation to address DC govt's response.

The Department of Homeland Security officially launched what they’re calling “Operation Catahoula Crunch” in New Orleans on Wednesday, aiming to arrest 5,000 people in southeast Louisiana and into Mississippi.

It's the administration’s latest stop in a cross-country immigration crackdown.

Statehood for D.C. is an ethical obligation at this point, required to protect the rights of our residents to govern ourselves against such out-of-state troops being sent to patrol our city.
NEW: Republican-led states, in a new filing at the D.C. Circuit, say D.C. residents are irrelevant, D.C. belongs to everyone else. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The filing is led by the South Carolina and West Virginia attorneys general. Both states sent troops to DC.

A little tidbit: @janeese4dc.bsky.social just told me that her campaign qualified for public financing in just four hours since launching. That required getting $40,000 in small donations from at least 1,000 D.C. residents. That's pretty fast.
