Corporations should not be able to post any profits until they have given all their employees an annual pay rise that exceeds the inflation rate.

Letter to the editor:

If Germany stripped British residents of healthcare, the UK would be outraged.

So why tolerate such proposals here?

According to a new study
by Yale researchers
Covid-19 continues
to be driving a large number
of work absences,
which is an important reminder
that it is not the case
that people are “quiet quitting,”
rather it’s the case
that this virus just won’t quit.

Thanks to the lovely people at Edinburgh for the great hospitality, incisive questions and discussion this evening. Plus the inside of the lecture theatre looked like I was about to perform in panto.

Yes, entrap impoverish and enslave in a fully privatised corporatist hellscape of SEZs and freeports. No human rights, no public services and no public good.

Ada Lovelace used mathematics to design the world’s first algorithm intended for a machine. This was done decades before computers were even built!

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!

The University of Texas-Austin is beginning a process to eliminate the Black Studies, Latino Studies, and Gender Studies departments in the College of Liberal Arts. This is a grave threat to the educational liberty of students, faculty, staff, and the people of Texas. 1/

In 1946, some people in Germany and Poland claimed, "We didn't know."
Today, no one can say they didn't know; you can only say, "you didn't want to know."

YES! This is such excellent news. Utrecht University now supports Knowledge Commons.

PLEASE ask YOUR library today if they will consider supporting us. We are free to all to use, but we NEED university support to make that possible.

I spent a wonderful day exploring the 'hofjes' (courtyard almshouses) of Leiden. I'll post more fully on these later in the week.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.

Grief is funny. I'm back on campus to teach today, because work makes me feel close to my father. I'm a second gen academic. My father was so proud of me for managing to get an academic job, delighted in talking about classes and meeting with me, delighted in my work. So. I'm going to teach today.

NEW ANALYSIS: More than 80% of UK social housing still relies on gas boilers keeping bills exposed to international gas markets and climate targets out of reach.

I’ve explored how other European countries are tackling this at scale, and what the UK can learn.

It is interesting that Jeremy Corbyn has been an MP for 42 years and led the opposition for 5 years.

He's been on Question Time once.

Nigel Farage, 44 times.
