How about a thread about a rather special train, the TMST (Trans Manche Super Train)? This was the project name for the high-speed train designed to link London, Paris and Brussels via the Channel Tunnel when it opened in 1994.

St Pancras station at night. I want my time with you in pink neon under the clock.

Ooh, exciting! Where are you heading?

Research needed! And a trip on the Caledonian Sleeper...

Haven't heard any comments so far. It's being phased in gradually, so not everyone is doing it yet.

Tuesday on the iron road: Paris with just about enough time for a boulangerie visit before prepping the 20:08 back to London.
A baguette, 2 pains aux raisins in a paper bag, and a Train Manager's cap on a table. A eurostar e320 train at a platform at dusk.

Sorry, I need to be more consistent with that!

A flying visit to visit our kid in Manchester and take him out for a belated 21st birthday dinner. Lovely sunny Saturday afternoon mooch around the Northern Quarter. And now a foggy journey back south.

Also, the 8 that are left are not compatible with the classic rail network north of London. The 7 shorter ones that were built for the cancelled "regional" e* have been scrapped.

I spy a Badger at Crewe.

A line of electric locos at Crewe. Second from left is the unique 89001. It was a 1980s prototype that's been restored and recently did a test run on the mainline. It was nicknamed the Badger by rail enthusiasts.

And relax. Told you it'd be alright! Bon voyage.

Bad luck. Don't worry. See staff at check-in and explain when you arrive. They'll help you get on the next available train. They're used to it.

Despite everything else going on, France last night honoured Robert Badinter, the former justice minister who ended the death penalty in 🇫🇷 in 1981. He entered the Panthéon in a moving moment of national tribute that the French do so well
