Hate the Two Solitudes remake:

'Essentially, the MOU is saying that there’s a new version of two nations in Canada...The agreement happens between Alberta and Canada, and everyone else has to find their place—and that includes BC and First Nations.'
The MOU between the governments of Alberta and Canada is one of the most significant events of Carney's tenure to date.

I broke down what I see as the stakes, goals, and risks to national unity in an interview with @cstarnino.bsky.social for @thewalrus.ca. thewalrus.ca/alberta-bc-p...

Have considered this : the least worst outcome of Carney's fossil mania is a threat to Vancouver.
@chrishatch.bsky.social: "It's already like a sword through my heart that we're turning Vancouver into a significant oil port. And as I read this MOU, it's going to be an even bigger one because they're going to expand the expansion on Trans Mountain."

This essay is the most convincing characterization of Carney I have seen - though it doesn't make any reference to his book length credo, Values.
"Recognizing that Carney’s political vision is fundamentally about using the government’s resources to clear the path for private sector growth is key to understanding what his leadership of Canada practically means"

Did the climate world misread Carney?
Many in the climate movement saw a fellow traveller in Mark Carney — the man who could preach climate action in the language of finance — but what if they were wrong from the very start?

It’s amazing, really. The Prime Minister is looking for big bold ideas to nation build and he came up with paying for an outdated technology to supply an energy source (bitumen) the world does not want.

Very moving to see a peace deal signed between the warring nations of Alberta and Canada.

Carney is up False Creek
Premier David Eby, speaking now, cites PM Carney's comments from earlier this week that pipeline would have to have agreement from B.C. and First Nations.

"This project does not have the support of Coastal First Nations," he says. Adds no proponent, no route, no money.

A pipeline that private companies aren't asking for, that BC & indigenous nations along the route oppose, that requires breaching the tanker ban to sell oil to countries that aren't interested in buying it, negotiated with the scandal-plagued premier who paused trampling rights for this.

Taxes are good! Taxes are how we pay for all of the things that make society a good place to live!

People who don't like taxes are selfish and stupid and make our entire society worse for their own short term, often barely noticeable gain.

Interesting to reflect on the overlap between the resilience of crown corporations and the appeal of corporate speak in Canada.
calling canadians “customers” of canada post is like calling us “customers” of the healthcare system. it’s such a silly, commercial framing.

Conversely, setting an Earthly Potentate against the Pope is quite Antichrist behaviour.
