A reminder that the Ford govt closed the supervised consumption site in Chinatown and refuses to approve injectable opioid agonist treatment for people with serious addictions. Right now, private addiction clinics are proliferating and the whole community is suffering.

'Chaos and destruction': Chinatown businesses, residents say drug problems persist | CBC News
People in Ottawa's Chinatown say little has changed since a new safer supply clinic operator took over in June. Some are considering leaving the neighbourhood, and others already have.

What the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group promised Ottawa residents versus what OSEG actually delivered:
Reposted by Michael D🇨🇦
The promise of Lansdowne 1.0 was a "world class destination" and a "waterfall" money flow that would see the City re-couping its investment. Didn't happen. OSEG is back looking for more City investment & more commercial development. Fool me once ... #ottcity
@bsky.app A few images of Lansdowne 1.0 as depicted by OSEG 15 years ago, and approved by Council. The promised public space was not provided, but is instead large format commercial space. #Ottawa

need a lot of people to produce a petrol/diesel car, supply chain = complicated w/ all those parts, and to make it run, you need energy from all kinds of countries that you might not want to be dependent on’

Provinces will have to get used to not being able to blame the easy lightening rod of Justin Trudeau for everything.

Look at this list. They are on the hook for the enshitification of everything from healthcare to housing to education.

And interprovincial tariffs that cost Cdns $$$
Far too many Canadians think the federal government controls everything. All while ignoring the decades-long sabotage of 🇨🇦 by powerful provincial gov’ts that control healthcare, education, minimum wage, rent controls, infrastructure & so many other aspects of gov’t that impact daily life. #cdnpoli

This is how we need to think about public services like the post, transit, and so on.
Dutch Railways: social profit of €1.33 billion, financial loss of €141 million. It delivers 11x (!!!!) more value to society than it costs.

social inclusion
increase in property values near stations;
welfare of employees and consumers;
productive use of travel time.

There is a Bank St. transportation plan and consultations. Community wanted 24/7 bus+cycle lane and eliminate parking. City said 'meh' and put the parking back. Enjoy your Landsdowne 2.0

Homes do not necessarily mean 'single family detached houses'. This is the misalignment between public policy and the industry. Need to build multi family dwelling, the missing middle (4-6 plexes). Ontario needs a new vector to construction and operations.

It would be impossible to parody this commercial.

The makers mistakenly made a built in-parody of how horrible it is to be stuck in a car (and psychologically un-healthy) and how much more fun, human, enjoyable, interactive, spontaneous and less-expensive it is not use one is. @usa.streetsblog.org
Trapped in traffic and stuck travelling long distances to work because of car-centric planning?

Be grateful, says Mercedes-Benz’s latest advert which aims to persuade us that spending two years of our lives stuck inside a car is somehow actually a good thing.

Doug Ford is banning speed cameras. He should read @douggordon.bsky.social "Life After Cars"
It is a lie. Contingent revenues will never be realized. The only sure bet is that OSEG gets free money. The city can repair/maintain the stands and civic centre with their own $400M over the next 40 years (a better deal). This is the current 1.0 contract.
Stick to Landsdowne 1.0, let OSEG take the risk (that is their busines) of contingent revenues, and #ottawa can repair/maintain the Civic Centre for a lot less than $400M.
@lauradudas.bsky.social @shawnmenard.bsky.social @arieltroster.com The rats are eating food which is in the garbage and not in the green bins. The rats eat food waste which is improperly disposed. They do not raid bird feeders. #ottcity
There's an empty lot close to Loblaws MCArthur that has a shit ton of rats. I've seen them many times. They scurry in the brush and squeak when you pass by

People feed them bread and other produce as they pass by on the sidewalk. It's not a great situation

I heard that's why the BK closed
