Who is Russell Vought cutting at our health agencies? The data people. The scientists. The comms people.

More CDC Cuts :: NCHS Edition 📊🔫

At least 1/3 of the staff at the National Center for Health Statistics has been cut (and remain cut). This is catastrophic for our nation’s health data.

Say goodbye to national health statistics that you can trust, healthcare surveys, NHANES and data systems.

No surprises here - removed or altered data sets include health data, and other data related to climate change, air pollution, etc., which enable threats to health and wellbeing and health inequities to be tracked and intervened upon.

Make an effect size prediction!

@jamiecummins.bsky.social and I are replicating Balcetis & Dunning's (2010) "chocolate is more desirable than poop" (Cohen's d = 4.52)

Let us known in the replies what effect size you think we'll find. Details of the study in the thread below.

I'm going to add another important debugging tactic:

Sometimes *your brain* just needs to be turned off and turned back on again.

If I stop troubleshooting for the day and go get some sleep, >90% of the time the bug is blatantly obvious when I return in the morning.

🎃 This Halloween, the real horror? A future without trusted public health agencies. When the CDC and science are under attack, even the skeletons start protesting.

Trust science 🔬,

An HHS source says admin also RIFed entire Office of Population Affairs last night.
“Not a single staff person to run our nation's family planning program or the evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention program. The Office of Adolescent Health which nested within OPA functionally ceases to exist”

I don’t know who needs to hear this but the CDC is being eviscerated right now. America is not going to have any kind of outbreak response capacity after tonight. Americans’ health data is no longer secure. Say goodbye to federal public health in any capacity. It’s a disaster. We won’t recover.

Even though English is my one & only language. #ADHD

Speaking/writing, for me, is often like when you're loading a Power Point presentation & some of the image files won't load, or the text is corrupted into identical squares because the computer forgot where that particular font is stored.

My #ADHD #memory issues mean sometimes I sound like #English is my 2nd language, cuz I use the wrong word for something cuz the one I need is hiding, or I'll say something like "the thing with the four pokey thingies," even though the word "fork" is in my permanent memory, & has been since I was 3.
