Gov't Oversight. MI/DC/VA/elsewhere. Here: Politics, Star Wars and other nerdery, DIY projects, bread, and occasional puns. Views expressed are my own. Mark Hamill mentioned me once on the beforetimes social media app.
I just keep thinking back to Tim Walz describing these people as weird. I dont like using weird as a pejorative term--I'm weird. But there's something just not right about all these people with their fixation on dressing nice and working out at airports.
Saladino: "The goal here is not for people to get sweaty in airports. Nobody wants to be sitting next to somebody smelling on an airplane. But ... "

Aside from this being an incredibly onerous requirement--how would you even do this?--this is so fucking Orwellian.

I shot the serif, and I shot the diversity.
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move

Lol--so basically he's like "Go back to the XP version of Microsoft Word, not the subsequent versions that changed the default to Calibri."

Also Republicans: "Wait, no, not those political statements!"

She won 60-40 in a city Harris carried by 1 percent.

This rhetoric is going to get her killed.
Trump: "Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is. With her little turban. I love her. She comes in, does nothing but bitch ... we ought to get her the hell out ... she's here illegally."

The crowd in Pennsylvania then starts chanting "send her back!"

You know what's better than a plan with 44 million people? One with 330 million.
Rand Paul on his healthcare plan: "What if you could join Costco? Costco has 44m members and if one person negotiated for all 44 and they bought a group plan like Toyota or General Motors does, they would be the largest collective entity in the country. They would drive prices down by sheer might."

love to live in a free market* society

*i.e. the president decides how companies can operate
Their explicit case to shareholders is that the president is in their pocket and will try to block Netflix, so you might as well cave and take our offer, which will pay out faster.

Trump has become their corporate thug.

Day what feels like 500 of "The president is clearly regularly receiving some sort of unknown intravenous treatment, but the legacy media and press will not ask him or the White House questions about it or press for answers on whether the President has a serious medical condition."

Oh hey and they didn't even have to commit a war crime to do it. Funny how that works.
December 7, 2025 at 7:00 PM
"I am here, standing next to this war criminal because if he were to come to my country we would have to arrest him" is a hell of a statement and self own.
At a joint press conference with Prime Minister Netanyahu in Israel, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledges that the reason he is in Israel instead of Netanyahu being in Germany is the ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu.

Labour: "How is Reform so far ahead in the polls??? We are working hard to deliver for our constituents!

Also Labour: "Let's parrot Reform talking points and make everyone think they're right."

So, this is probably obvious, but if you claim its OK to strike two people in the water trying to flip their boat because they *might* resume a "hostile act," you're essentially saying you can kill anyone, for any reason. Any person *might* commit a hostile act in the future.

I don't understand how this is not the number one and only question the political press ask the White House every day. The president is clearly receiving some sort of unknown medication intravenously at regular intervals.

I'm sure Trump signed every one of the 1500 January 6th pardons by hand.
BREAKING: President Trump declared that all of former President Biden’s pardons are now “invalid.” There is no legal mechanism for presidents to revoke their predecessors’ pardons but if Trump is taken seriously, thousands could be thrown into legal chaos.

Never thought I'd see a day when GEORGE WILL is the sanest voice on the Washington Post's editorial page.
GEORGE WILL: “.. The killing of the survivors by this moral slum of an administration should nauseate Americans. A nation incapable of shame is dangerous, not least to itself.”

I guess Stephen Miller hates the idea of Christmas trees (brought by Germans), Santa Claus (brought by the Dutch), and St. Patrick's Day (Irish, obv).
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization
