sometimes I forget how beautiful Toronto really is, despite all of its flaws. It’s truly a breathtaking city to exist in. #toronto #winter #danforth #TOpoli

Colle has, politely, never been the most policy oriented councillor but what he's calling for here makes no sense even by his standards. He wants to.. pause the rulings? Of an independent tribunal in response to them... correctly ruling that applications meet provincial TOD policy?

The Good "The extremely popular service is forecast to hit 8.1 million rides in 2025, up from 2.4 million in 2019, the Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) board heard in a presentation Friday. By 2030, the program hopes to nearly double that, with 14 million annual rides." 1/ www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

My understanding is that these signals double as what the French call a SAC (Système d'Aide à la Conduite) which tell drivers that the priority request has been taken into account.

The French systems generally have both a priority activated (flashing diamond) and pre-green ( flashing "!")
Transit Signal Priority on ion Light Rail, Region of Waterloo, Ontario (2019).

Trains use a horizontal (stop) or vertical (go) white aspect bar, instead of red or green.

The trains follow a wave and do not stop between stations.

Since being shuttered under false pretenses two years ago, the Ontario Science Centre’s roof still has more integrity than the Ford government. Please support our efforts to protect it, and return this special place to the public.

wow. unbelievable.
338,000 of traffic charges dropped in Ontario this year compared to 57,000 in 2019. Our court system is in shambles. Justice denied to seriously injured road users. Dangerous driving left undeterred and prolific. globalnews.ca/video/115724...

I will never not be fascinated by snow management in Montreal and many other parts of Quebec.

In addition to plowing the roads, sidewalks, and bike lanes, cities will actually collect snow from streets and truck it out to snow dumps half a dozen times a year.

It makes a massive difference.

The development should be centered around the transit line, not an arterial road. Concentrating development on arterials maximizes conflict between peds and cars/trucks, maximizing the number of pedestrian fatalities:

This is such a big @ttcriders.bsky.social and @mayoroliviachow.ca win!!

The Scarborough Subway extension isn’t going open until past 2030 and people would have been stuck on buses in traffic.

Now the busway will provide fast and reliable service for riders!
Y'all are giving us whiplash with all these announcements this week! This is going to make a massive difference to transit riders in Scarborough and we are thrilled!

It's also a testament to what can be accomplished without provincial meddling. Metrolinx, take note.

Scarborough busway to open earlier than expected, says Mayor Olivia Chow
Construction for the $93.8-million project to convert the defunct Scarborough Rapid Transit corridor into a busway began this year and wasn’t expected to finish until at least 2027.

55% of Ontarians didn't vote in the last provincial election. People have lost faith in government because of politicians like Doug Ford.

That's my challenge. Getting out there and earning people's trust. Showing them government doesn't have to be corrupt. That it can change things for the better.

that is how you operate a street running LRT like a subway line. Seattle’s line 1 is worthy of a number dedication…finch west lrt is not.
I wanted to compare what I saw on Seattle's Line 1 LRT with Toronto's Finch LRT.

In Seattle, you can see left turning cars waiting while fast-moving transit gets priority. Help TTCriders make it happen in Toronto: www.ttcriders.ca/greenlight

it’s insanity that we can’t get this in Toronto. The biggest city in the country with higher transit ridership😭

The Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown LRT contract specifies average speeds up to 25 km/h (49 min peak, 45 mins off peak over 19 km)

Their current test schedules are running 20 km/h (56 mins).

The 2012 benefits case said 29 km/h, averaging 34 in the tunnels and 25 on street. (1/2)

Two things

1) All the promising that the LRT lines would be fast was a lie.
2) Having the P3 be this crazy three way between Metrolinx - TTC - and a Private Consortium was a terrible idea. That we just NEEDED TTC to run it makes no sense. OL won't be like this

Metrolinx: here is an LRT capable of transit signal priority (TSP)

City of Toronto: let’s put speed restrictions & not use full TSP

Public: I want faster trains

Matlow: Let’s talk publicly about TSP

Myers: let’s do it privately, I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings

About a year ago Dianne Saxe asked for TTC board meetings to be scheduled and recorded in TMMIS like every other committee and now they're easier to find and more people follow the agenda and proceedings. Sometimes seemingly dumb little things matter.

1. Current run time on the Finch LRT is around 56 minutes end to end.
