Important update was yesterday B.C.'s Human Rights Commissioner said the B.C. gov's approach to drug use has been a human rights violation. Here's to hoping CBC adds that into the story because it's kinda real big.

Also unofficial frostbite capital of the world. Record breaking EMS responses to opioid poisonings. What’s the wait for permanent supportive housing, non-market housing? Food bank access at all time high? Ban on tents so people die exposed to the elements while on lists for support access…
This time last year we learned that the homeless population was living in such dire circumstances they experienced rare lice infections were so bad they were transmitted to organ donation recipients. What did we do after that to respond to human beings in those conditions?

“Government's obligation is to save lives, reduce harm and improve quality of life for those who have been marginalized, while working toward greater equity for everyone.”

Everyone should take a moment to read this statement from the BC’s Office of the Human Rights Commissioner.

A human rights-based approach to the toxic drug crisis would require public policy that recognizes the full humanity of people who use unregulated drugs

which would be a whole new thing

DULF is a humanist organization that has saved lives. They did what the government has failed to do & regulated the drugs people were already using. That same government is charging them with crimes for not sitting idly by & watching more people die preventable deaths from an unregulated drug supply
Founders of Vancouver’s Drug User Liberation Front Eris Nyx and Jeremy Kalinin have just been found guilty of drug trafficking.

Justice Murray rules CDSA exemption didn’t include procurement & distribution.

“There is no doubt all of DULF’s actions were for one purpose.”

Their strategy was saving lives.

As we ready for the UCP's 2nd pre-emptice use of the notwithstanding clause in as many weeks, let's clarify what this means.

1️⃣ The move is constitutional. They *can* invoke it.
2️⃣ The UCP is not *required* to do this. There are other means to pass the law.
3️⃣ They should not use it, in my view.🧵
