This is the only viable and sensible solution to drug problems.
The misuse of drugs act is unfit for purpose, the war on drugs has achieved nothing and you can’t arrest your way out of an epidemic.
We should look at the broader picture and the massive overall benefits to society and addicts.

The war on drugs has failed.
It punishes those with addictions, drives drug sales through the black market and ultimately kills people.

We need to grow up and make what’s so obviously the right decision.
We need to stop criminalising drugs.

However this should start with drugs being decriminalised while the ‘infrastructure’ to help with legislation is put in place.
This would include and expansion of recovery programmes offering different approaches, safe consumption spaces, access to properly manufactured substances and the NHS

There are so many reasons why drugs should be legalised and regulated.
For a start it would probably halve the prison population; would raise a lot in taxation & recovery programmes could be properly funded.
The current drug legislation is unfit for purpose and desperately needs overhauling.

I thought @zackpolanski.bsky.social was brilliant on #BBCQT tonight despite a hostile panel and personal attacks. Calling out fascism and racism rather than blaming immigrants, calling for a wealth tax rather than blaming poor and disabled people for needing a properly funded welfare system.
