September 13, 2026 will be the 20th anniversary, in point of fact. For a brief period of time, my cat Ghlaghghee (pronounced "fluffy") was the most famous cat on the Internet. She took it in stride. One of the great moments of the blog era. We should do something for the anniversary. Suggestions?

Just another example of how far they wil go. They are telling us they know their orders are illegal and they intend to have military personnel commit these acts.
"According to UCMJ Law Article 92 An order is unlawful if it violates the Constitution, U.S. laws, or military regulations and it directs a service member to commit a crime or unethical act."

Nov. 20, 2025

As of the 11/23 "update," that clause is no longer there.

This is a practice Ive been doing for at least 15 years.
Its for any one of any (or no) faith. The pause to reflect on the past year & prepare for the new is very useful. There is also something comforting knowing others around the globe are doing this too.

This is probably true. Because if I have the money and time to do this, most of my current problems would already have been solved.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but a day spent reading Agatha Christie in a Scottish Highlands Cottage in front of a crackling fireplace whilst indulging in a plate of emotional support scones will indeed fix you.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is not worthy of your friendship.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

This is honestly one of the cleverest lines I’ve ever written and I remain ungodly proud of it.
Because @tkingfisher.com has a new book out, I finally got around to reading "Swordheart ", which led me to "Clockwork Boys", and this ✨absolutely delightful✨ line:

"Hours passed, like a kidney stone."

A Gatsby theme party on eve of 10% of Americans loosing their food access. If you wrote that in a script people would call it heavy handed.
“The absolute worst part of working at a food bank is when you gotta tell people, 'that's all we got today. We're out.' And you know you can't send them anywhere because they're going to be out, too.”

Your ability to get healthcare should not depend on your productivity

Your ability to get housing should not depend on your productivity

Saying “be more productive!” To those who are struggling devalues human life.

It aids fascism.

We are magic.
The saga of the beautiful husky who needed a home, & the BlueSky folk who stepped forward to make an old-fashioned internet miracle...has had a lot of developments I've been too busy handling to update you all on.

Don’t look now…but I think BlueSky has pulled off an old-school Internet magic: a family member passed & left behind a sweet baby husky on the other side of the continent…and BS angels came forward to relay her to me in time to get her out of the shelter.

I think my dogbaby’s coming home, guys!

Every once in awhile, I think of my favorite “…the fuck did you just say?” phraseology, which is from Homer’s Iliad, proving we have never, ever changed as a species, only less fancily inclined.

“What nonsense has escaped the barrier of your teeth now?”

This is also why service industries continue to enshittify, from Chipotle check out lines to airports to streaming. Vast majority of consumers simply don't matter to the actual functioning of the economy. Corporations do not exist to serve us. They serve the 6000 rich people hoarding all the wealth

People who drive with music so loud I can *feel* it in my own house have no concern, much less respect, for others and Im sure it reflects in other parts of their lives.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I (and perhaps you) get confused because we think intellect has to be connected with wisdom or thoughtfulness, but it just doesn’t. Intelligence is values-neutral and amplifies whatever it is pointed at.

Just to hammer this home- there are no societal problems for tech to solve. We already solved then. We know how to do clean energy. We know how to cut emissions. We have the resources to feed and house everyone. We've shown UBI and univ. healthcare work.

We just need to care enough to DO all of it.
The greatest difference we could make to our future generations is not…any of the shit we hear people saying about tech.

It is learning how to care for each other enough to create and hold a real, lasting peace.
