It crossed my mind it might be neat to have a feed here consisting of Portuguese vtubers (I like the term "vtugas"), but a way to create such a thing apparently requires getting off the phone app and futzing around with GitHub, need more time.

I wonder if one already exists and eluded my attention.

one of the most annoying things about youtube is non-optional auto-translation of everything on a page to your selected language and defaulting auto-dubbing to "on". It's practically a low-key insistence that no other languages exist. anyway I tried this extension to stop that bs n it seems to work

This is an old tactic, older even than the 1920s Vance is inventing. After WWI in Canada a strikebreaking tactic was "hey returning soldiers, you don't want to side with the immigrants taking your jobs, right"; the answer from many soldiers was "nice try, shut up" (I'm working on a book about this)

The yearly income to join the top 1% in the USA is in the vicinity of $750,000. By contrast, top 20% is around $150,000. I’m not sure how you can even conflate the two.

I always get drawn back to Al Gore telling voters that he’d only raise taxes on the top 1% and then after the election a poll showed that something like 20% of voters thought they were in the top 1% and another 20% thought they would be in the next five years. Just a total tragic disconnect.
