I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Basma. Basma was a makeup artist and did eyelash extensions before the war. She lost her home and the tower she worked in was recently destroyed. She has 4 children Tulin, 9, Malak, 7, Kamal, 5 and baby Maryam who is just 9 months old.

Ruba is friends with @itsmeio.bsky.social whom I’ve shared, has social media in Gaza that predates the war and sent me a photo of her Palestinian ID.

Honestly, it’s exhausting that people think Gazans should only ask for help to survive to eat, to stay alive but not to dream, to study, or to rebuild their lives. Wanting education, safety, and a future isn’t greed. It’s being human.

I love people's creativity and the various ways they have found to support each other. I've seen several examples of people doing this in Chicago. If you know a local vendor, can you do the same for them? Sell their goods so they won't be vulnerable to ICE?

I see toxicity multiple times a day on here: every time @bsky.app deletes the account of a person in Gaza trying to build connection through this site. The erasure of Palestinian voices is dehumanizing to them, to us, and to you. There's nothing more toxic than the obvious reason behind this.

Survival funds & mutual aid work—from us on the outside, from these kind neighbors in Gaza—will be necessary for a LONG time even if tomorrow a lasting ceasefire were to be implemented. End the 18-year siege, restore Palestinian sovereignty, that's what would have to change.
