9:09 AM this morning all three Baltic states disconnected from the Russian IPS/UPS system.

Tests are being performed today (50% done at the moment) and tomorrow we join the Continental European grid.

Oil in 2006, gas in 2014, electricity 2025. Looks like we're free.

I don't get it: why are #Spain and #Portugal setting up a task force to figure out what caused the #blackout.

They could just open up their twitter and find out. So many people not only know the cause, but have solutions on hand, too.

Fortunately the remedies remain mostly the same, whether they genuinely were accidents or not.

Confiscate the ships, try the crews, and auction anything valuable found to cover the damages unless the crew or ship owners fork out enough cash.

Should stop the incidents eventually either way.

EUROPE’s summer-winter gas calendar spread has marched deeper into backwardation as traders anticipate the region will have to pay much higher prices to refill storage in the summer of 2025 than it did in the summers of 2024 and 2023.

There have been some cable cutting in the Baltic Sea.

These happened in context: on Feb. 7-9 Baltic countries (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) are about to leave Russian power system and connect to Continental European grid.

A couple of points to dull the sharp sharp headlines on European gas market today:

▪️Yamal LNG, the only Russian LNG export project of significance in Europe, is not on the new US list.

As last gasps of Gazprom in Europe get even shallower there are so many horrible takes on European gas market it makes me quite nostalgic for the sort of propaganda Nord Stream 2 AG used to produce.

END OF AN ERA: Russia's oldest gas export route to Europe halted

For over five decades, Europe benefited from a (relatively) steady flow of Russian gas via pipelines in Ukraine. That deal has now expired

While that won't trigger shortages in Europe, it does mark a historic shift

Let us see.

Baltics planned to decouple from Russian Electric network on Feb 2025. Severed ESTLINK2 between Finland and Estonia is direct current. So not directly contributing to network stability, but having enough power reserves from abroad will be important to baltics.

Yeah, this looks like a perfect match. And not just because it was right there at the right time but because it didn't just sail through with steady velocity like Xin Xin Tian 2 seems to have done.
Cook Island flag oil tanker Eagle S lost 25% of her speed minutes before she crossed the broken cable Estlink2. She crossed at 10:26Z, ie the time of cable fault.

She proceeded at affected speed til she reached shallow waters, where she lost all momentum. After some maneuvers she regained speed.

Excellent quick summary on the status quo in the #Baltic #Sea region.

I would have chosen even harsher language to describe the inability to cooperate not only between PL-DE, but btw Baltics as well.

Yeah, #EnergySky, this is what is happening in the Baltic Sea region energy-wise at the moment.

The new #nuclear hype, if you'd ask me, seems to be hype and not much more.

Come on, people, bring us something tangible: your project cost estimates, potential CfD levels, or even better – successful greenfield/brownfield projects to orient ourselves by.

Something. Anything.
