I've always been tired of "Both sides are the same"/"Democrats are right-wing" rhetoric, but never had at-a-glance datasets to point at to debunk it.

Today I found one.

This analyzes party lean by actual voting record.

Aside: Look who's the most progressive senator.

voteview.com/congress/sen...
Dataset from Voteview that shows where every Senator sits in terms of left/right leaning, and that Elizabeth Warren is the most progressive Senator.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Well yeah or we wouldn't have voted for Republicans who were the direct cause of most of the bad things that went on.

this crowdsourced crowd counting was a big success previously (no one else is doing something like this, and researchers cited it) and i'm happy to help out again.

Attending a "No Kings" protest Saturday? The Xylom's @alexip718.com and Strength in Numbers' @gelliottmorris.com are joining forces to conduct a nationwide, unofficial, crowdsourced attendance estimate.

We need your help to be our eyes and ears across 2,100+ locations and on the Internet.

I repeat, so you basically want us to have 100% of Project 2025 right now because in your world it'd be literally impossible for Democrats to stop or mitigate anything at all?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
1. So what happens when Republicans win again?

2. You can't abolish the two-party system because it's based on the mathematics of First Past the Post, which would require changing state governments, not just federal ones.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
"and the idea of needing 60 senators to pass anything is ridiculously dysfunctional"

So you basically want us to have 100% of Project 2025 right now because in your world it'd be literally impossible for Democrats to stop or mitigate anything at all?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
"because Democrats lost the elections that, by pure luck,"

Oh no no no.

Americans voting like this was entirely intentional on our parts.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Is your preference the current cabinet we have now, then?

"and the president has accumulated too much power"

So the thing that happens when you remove checks and balances like... say... filibusters?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Kinda like when people claim Harris should help us, and like, considering the incredibly offensive message we sent her in voting for Trump and his merry band of fascists over her, she'd have every right to just go "f--- you people".
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Trained to... do what? Tell the truth that the man served his time?

And that honestly him helping us out at all is pretty nice considering how much we screwed him over by giving him Republicans to screw him in Congress for most of his terms and then voting for Trump afterwards on top?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
It's not even a request to be accommodating, is the wacky thing.

It's the reverse tone policing where they want every Democrat to spell everything out explicitly and use only one-syllable words along with a minimum quota of cursing.

Basically ironically actual real Blue MAGA behavior.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
The whole thing lately where it feels like every Democratic politician calling out Trump gets a "why don't you use plainer language/spell it out more" or whatever is so tiresome.

Is "Dems need to understand Americans are morons that need to be talked down to" really a criticism against *Dems*?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Because some people stayed awake during school and learned to understand words with more than one syllable.

Real talk, the whole "Why don't Democrats understand Americans are idiots that need to be talked down to" narrative that's been going around lately is so unbelievably tiresome.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Not enough swear words and shitposting memes.

And I wish I was being snarky in saying that.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Really the thing we *actually* need to fix/get rid of is Murc's Law, or rather, the mentality it describes.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
FWIW I am a "reality has a leftist bias" person as I find when you follow truth you really *do* end up with "Rockefeller Republican" being about as far right as you get.

But honestly what I'm primarily saying is the process is hard as the people we need don't care about changing Repubs, only Dems.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
The problem is that every single third party is focused on beating the *Democrats*, not Republicans.

As it'd be ideal to have Rockefeller Repubs and moderate Dems in one party while progressive Dems join far leftists in another, but zero third parties are interested in working towards that.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
This right here is what Pelosi actually meant when she said we need a strong Republican Party: That we need two viable parties that can be trusted to govern halfway reasonably, not just one.
patdeklotz.bsky.social
There is a short term crisis and a long term crisis, the long term being that we only have two real parties and one of them is wholly corrupted.

We have got to have a second real party, and the GOP can’t be salvaged; a whole generation of politicians is complicit.

Need a new, viable party.
rtodkelly.bsky.social
Reminder to everyone that if Trump and his administration succeed in changing this country over the coming year the way they're trying, it's not going to matter if he dies.

When Trump kicks the bucket, no one on the right is going to say "okay, I guess now we'll go back to democratic rule."
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Basically, America as a whole needs to be willing to vote for Democrats until Republicans stop being fundamentally evil.

As conservatives need to start being forced to vote for the comparatively more reasonable Republicans in the primaries if they want to stand a chance of beating Democrats.
jonmladd.bsky.social
This is an essential. "Democrats need to beat the Trumpists in elections that we ensure are free" is the best strategy for the next 2-4 years. But it is not a long-term strategy! The only possible long-term strategy is that someone else needs to defeat the Trumpists for control of the Repub Party.
jakemgrumbach.bsky.social
“Win every election” is not a viable strategy for preventing authoritarianism
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Ironically that's why Biden commuted death sentences: Because Catholicism *actually is* pro-life.

As much as I disagree with the anti-abortion stances, Catholic doctrine actually does follow the whole package there of every single life-preserving stance versus only being pro-birth.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Hot take: We're living through why Democrats should not have removed the filibuster.

Especially since both parties removing the filibuster on judicial nominees is most of how we got conservative courts.

Cabinet nominees and budget bills only needing 51 votes is also more of how we got here.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
So IOW you're a fake account.

Hope the pay is worth selling out to fascists.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
Honestly, looking at your profile it's super obvious you're a fake account, but I'll give you one last chance to prove you're a human being by explaining why you're blaming Republican actions on Democrats.
leftistlogician.bsky.social
"And nice bit of homophobia there"

You do realize that people of any gender can suck off people of any gender, right?
leftistlogician.bsky.social
So... who's paying you to suck off Republicans and protect them from accountability by doing these laughably ridiculous mental contortions to somehow magically blame Democrats for Republican actions?
