It's important to me to learn from others and even if I disagree with someone, I try to at least understand where they are coming from. It's why I follow a broad range of accounts and views.
If you're poor and rely on government benefits, for example, then you're still feeling the effects of 2008
"Is this what 2008 felt like?"

No. 2008 was a crescendo of years of sub-prime mortgages laundered through faked bond ratings and derivatives trading by an army of savy, greedy people hiding what they'd done.

This is one rapist felon who's killing the world in full view of everyone for fun.

Thanks to @jeremycorbyn.bsky.social for mentioning my work in his piece about Labour’s disability benefits cuts. The narrative that disabled people are “a cost” on the rest of society is pernicious and becoming more and more engrained. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

UK politics - and that in many other countries - is stuck in this cycle of hyperbole / denial about what is possible, and lacks serious debate about what can actually be achieved by governments. And talk of "chainsaws" is just pathetic.

Elon Musk called a U.S. senator from Arizona—a Navy veteran—a "traitor" for supporting Ukraine.

The senator fired back: "Traitor? Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a core principle of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those who do."

HOW TO HELP BUMBLEBEES

Once she emerges from her hibernation burrow she spends a lot of time resting, allowing her metabolism & temperature to rise.

Here see she is warming up her body ready for flight.

NEW: The actions of Trump and Vance in recent weeks highlight something under-appreciated.

The American right is now ideologically closer to countries like Russia, Turkey and in some senses China, than to the rest of the west (even the conservative west).

New study confirms previous findings: most people underestimate the environmental/climate impacts of behaviours like flying and eating meat/dairy. More accurate perceptions lead to change in individual behaviour and in support for relevant policies.
See 🧵👇
⭐ Key findings ⭐

1️⃣ Participants consistently underestimated the carbon impact of high-impact behaviors (like flying and eating meat) and overestimated the impact of lower-impact behaviors (like recycling). These results are well-aligned with previous research.

Is the media and political sphere being run by a few Oxford grads rotting public discourse? Who can say. But perhaps a think tank recommending cutting disabled people’s benefits without bothering to understand the benefit might point to some of the country’s current problems.

So much profound beauty in our world. But it seems the forces unable to see beyond their own wealth, power, and egos are in the ascendant right now.

It's our duty to mind ourselves and each other in these tough times, which may well get much worse. The living world depends on us never giving up. 🌍

Trump never had a peace plan for Ukraine. He had a plan for Ukraine's surrender, with a colonial resource grab. As Zelenskyy rightly refused it, or to cooperate in Trump's TV spectacular, the US has now cut Ukraine off.
That's what blackmail looks like.
That's what the world is up against.

All protecting their position, currying favours. What of the long-term?
