#mozfest Pro-tip: As you travel to Barcelona, scroll the schedule and just add ALL the sessions that peak your interest. There's too much happening to make such decisions on the fly and this way you've got a shortened list.

See you soon @mozilla.org :)

I use Claude (an AI) to scan my posts for spelling and grammar errors. On the most recent post (about the East Wing, link below), I got a really amazing addendum.

Given how much the GOP actively and openly disdain women, is it really surprising that their overlord destroyed the East Wing?
Yep, this is basically what we all think about AI. And it is exhausting to have to pick apart the political, social and economic implications of the ridiculous hype machine every time people outside of tech say stupid stuff about how AI is a game changer
Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!

Yesterday my mom showed me her signs for #nokings, which she's going to with her friends. She's in her seventies and mad as hell. I'm super proud. 💜

I considered writing a long carefully constructed argument laying out the harms and limitations of AI, but instead I wrote about being a hater. Only humans can be haters.

I am an AI hater. This is considered rude, but I do not care, because I am a hater.

Also, I think I just sort of reply-guyed, so sorry about that.
If one person gives a toss, that's plenty for me. But then I am a bit anti-tracking and also think KPIs and growth statistics are capitalist / corporate nonsense. What impact is a newsletter trying to have and does merely opening it create impact? Y we measuring everything all the time?
I don't love linking to substack but this deposition of Laura Loomer is sadly not surprising. Seems wild, unless you've recently experienced the right-wing illogical logic:

Oh I'm really sorry! DM me your email addy and I will purge you from the DB. Sorry for the inconvenience!

It was a pleasure hearing Audrey give this talk @civicsoftech.bsky.social last week
We have had a century of “big data,” seventy years of “AI,” decades and decades of Bill Gates' bullshit and “computers in the classroom.” It's batshit to believe that this time this time, the ed-tech is going to be good 2ndbreakfast.audreywatters.com/degenerate-a...

"One of the reasons the epidemic of violence against women is so unacknowledged is because cases like these are talked about individually, and often treated as though they are shocking aberrations rather than part of a pervasive pattern that operates at all levels of society."

During the @civicsoftech.bsky.social conf last week, I saw a colleague from the @writingproject.bsky.social (NWP and @mozilla.org did some stuff together back in the days), and she pointed me to #writeout, which makes my heart full: writeout.nwp.org

If you, like me, happen to be OG #edtech person and are looking for a group of activist educators, this starter pack has lots of inspiring people: bsky.app/starter-pack...
I really enjoyed the @civicsoftech.bsky.social kick off keynote with @audreywatters.bsky.social . The story of more, more, more in #edtech hasn't gotten us anywhere and we don't need data to get to know our learners. Look them in the eye and, like, talk to them. Humanity FTW. Thanks again Audrey!
Not sure who needs to hear it but your creativity doesn't have to be a capitalist endeavor...
To be fair, toenails and fingernails are one of the best natural fertilizers that exist, so saving them for the garden seems like the right move. But clipping them in front of other people at all? And in a classroom!? No.
