One of the things about trust is that it is efficient. It saves you having to invest a lot of time and effort in verification, and if placed in the right places, saves you a lot of pain.

"The diseases will do the education" is what we get when we don't trust.

The people I know who do dress well do so out of love - they MAKE the time to do it, because it brings them joy. Pushing a narrative that people dressing sloppy is a moral failing is hyper-classist. Pay people more and give them time to enjoy life and maybe we'll all look nicer for you.

in a reasonable world the Trump admin would be catching enormous amounts of shit for their decision to deploy the national guard now that this has happened, rather than the media helping manufacture consent for them ending all refugee programs

I am not holding my breath
The Trump DOJ played down the risk of deploying the National Guard to DC, despite warnings, and now one of them is dead. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

"A wyvern, director. It has two legs, two wings, whereas a-."

"Which flies, breathes fire, and is intelligent?"

"About as intelligent as a border collie."

"So, intelligent. Why?"

"You asked us to invent measures to take down small drones."

J. Stuart, you wouldn’t be pursuing a constitutional amendment if Judge Gibson actually gave you a gerrymandered map because you could win that case with the existing law.
BREAKING NEWS: "Judge Gibson gave us a gerrymandered map," Senate President J. Stuart Adams says, announcing the legislature's appeal to the Utah Supreme Court.

Ain't no other way to say it: Republican utleg are a bunch of whiny, power hungry taint warts throwing tantrums.

Utahns deserve honest and fair representation. Republicans want to stay in power with their stranglehold on citizens at any cost and any means.

Some CA legislator should propose a bill to move wildfire mitigation costs out of electricity bills & into the general fund. It's more honest (the whole state is affected), more progressive (electricity bills are *extremely* regressive), & would, at a stroke, lower CA electric bills.

"What are you working on?"

I put the soldering iron on its stand and inspected my work.

"A time travel receiver. I figured out the machine can't travel in time itself."

"Do you have a transmitter too?"

I plugged the power in. "Not yet."

A newspaper appeared in the machine.

"I will, next year."

Machine learning (umbrella term, I know) is a useful, sometimes transformative tool in the hands of trained researchers who understand how to deploy it and critically assess the results.

A chatbot is not useful in the same ways (though underlying technologies may be, in other contexts).
