From a crewmember on yesterday's Teal 74 mission into now-Category 5 Hurricane #Melissa. As clear of an eye as you will see in the Atlantic basin.
There were so many things that went sideways in the last election but I really do think muzzling Tim Walz was perhaps the most visible example of paid consultant culture absolutely kneecapping the Democratic party.
Tim Walz: "People are gonna be lined up out here to get food, and we're talking about a damn ballroom. Don't lose the plot."

Hi folks: if anyone's got some extra cash and wants to donate to a good cause, I'll recommend the Capital Area Food Bank which serves the DC metro area. People here are getting hit pretty hard right now and could use the help.

And I get it! I work for a SaaS company and the scalability and infrastructure AWS provides really is unparalleled. To roughly quote an old Apple phrase, AWS just works.

But that scalability has drawn EVERYONE to a single point of failure. It's too concentrated! It's a massive problem now!
Really good thread. Having so much of, well, everything reliant on AWS/Azure/GCP is a HUGE risk factor for all of us.
📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.
My god. Even if HAFS is going overboard on max sustained winds, this is shaping up to be an absolutely historic, horrific hurricane for Jamaica.
The 6z HAFS-A and HAFS-B models have Melissa reaching maximum sustained winds of 190 MPH just offshore Jamaica early Tuesday morning.

As Toni Morrison said, "the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work." But she also reminded us never to lose our capacity to be shocked.

Part of my conversation on @ayman.msnbc.com earlier today.
I'm not sure what to do with no Mariners or Seahawks or Sounders game on a Sunday, Norm.
It's a credit to Apple that someone like me, a lifelong benchmark/performance computer junkie, is still rocking an almost five year old M1 Macbook Air without a single complaint. Still works great, still does everything I need it to do. Easily the best laptop/computer I've ever owned.

MY ANCESTRESSES DID NOT BIND THOSE KIRK/SPOCK ZINES BY HAND FOR THIS SLANDEROUS ASS OMISSION
okay grandpa, let's get you to bed
Especially a major hurricane that is moving as glacially as this one. Just a horrific confluence of unheard of conditions
It has not gotten media play, but #Melissa is shaping up to be an absolutely catastrophic storm for Jamaica and Cuba that there's not a whole bunch of precedence for. I'm horrified because I know this fucking administration won't do anything to help what's likely an unprecedented disaster
I know everything is blowing up here at home, but Jamaica is staring down the barrel of one of the worst hurricanes ever to hit and I'm horrified because I know we can't count on this US administration to provide relief like every prior admin has done
Latest message from the Hurricane Hunters report that Melissa now has a closed eye wall.

So much talk about "working-class" voters becomes a discussion of how to accommodate and reinforce misogyny and bigotry in order to win elections. "Working-class" in these discussions invariably means men (usually white men). If those are the voters you're trying to reach, just be honest about it.

He really does capture the heart of the real American Dream for us non-white people: real dignity, the recognition of our full humanity
anyway I should update my resume
