Struck this morning by how the win wasn’t from the UC system itself pushing back—it was its worker power through *unions* and aligned groups like @aaup.org defending UC interests, even though admin itself wasn’t.
There’s some kind of lesson here
One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.

Rather than trivializing how much toilet paper Ghislaine Maxwell has access to behind bars, remember that most incarcerated people have little to their name.

Toilet paper isn't a luxury – it's a basic necessity.
Apparently, Ghislaine Maxwell is living it up in prison with unlimited toilet paper. Here’s what we know about her alleged special privileges at her new federal prison camp in Texas.

Alessandra Korap led her people in a fight against a mining giant who threatened their territory. She received threats in response. She has never backed down!

Something that’s so striking in these emails is how…unimpressive Epstein is. He comes off as a pompous, sub-literate lech. Yes everyone is so mortifyingly solicitous of him! All fawning and flattery! Why?????

Now, it's hard to campaign on "The US government should seize millions of foreign domains and build a Great Firewall."

But passing bills that are doomed to fail gives you years to rile up a societal panic. When the laws don't work, you blame porn again. At which point, maybe people are ready.

I'll give you a US example:.

The main age-verification lobbyist — a man who largely believes porn should be outlawed — admitted the state-level bills he pushed for won't work and were really a predicate for federal action.

He wants the DOJ to seize domains.

the choice to never publicly talk about mod decisions (which is common policy of virtually every corporate social media platform) has been catastrophic for the legitimacy of content moderation. users don’t trust/understand policies, forcing them into a necessarily adversarial position towards mods.
Our policy has been not to comment on individual accounts. You end up having to litigate every case in public, and we don’t have the capacity for infinite debates in public.

Then there’s also the consequences such as the increased litigation and bad actors gaming your systems.

For the record, Aaron, as someone who has been suspended before, and I have said so in my email responses to moderation, I am more than willing to delete offending posts. It is difficult to tread around automod sentiment when one doesn't know which X posts triggered Y guidelines.
