This is, by far, the best, most accurate and extremely well argued analysis of the power of Danielle Smith's communications style that I have read. This deserves to be widely distributed and as Markham notes, the Alberta NDP should take note.

Today, on International Human Rights Day, Albertans woke up in a province where the rights of one of our most vulnerable minorities have been overridden by a government whose only concern is its own ideological base. 1/2

Albertans deserve to know the cumulative total of severance costs AHS had to pay out when the government continually dismissed those with knowledge of CorruptCare. How much was wasted covering up this scandal?

It's grading season. Like most polisci profs, I'm inundated with essays on the state of democracy.

Here is a transcript of Danielle Smith's remarks on her radio show yesterday.

Let's break down her comments to see just how problematic and uninformed they are.

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.

Minister LaGrange has blood on her hands. Seems a suitable justification for the current effort to have her recalled. Actually, this might be the clearest case for recall, next to the one for the Premier and Minister Nicolaides.
Health Minister Adriana LaGrange suppressed information about measles cases that health officials told her the public should have. Another must read from the Globe.

How many years ago was it that the Edmonton Police were trying to bust Diotte in an undercover drunk driving sting? Now they're posing for photos with him. But he was a Sun journalist back then, writing negative columns about photo radar. Now he's pro law and order so he gets an EPS photo op.
Former EPS chief Dale McFee's overt politicization of his role has apparently opened the door for his successor Warren Dreichel and EPS officers to attend political functions. If the EPS has any photos of an EPS chief and officers attending a federal NDP event, please post them.

With this leaked document it will be difficult for the UCP to deny their endgame is to privatize healthcare in Alberta. As is the case with the dismantling of AHS, there is no evidence to support this. To the contrary, both will further weaken the public healthcare system.

When the UCP uses the notwithstanding clause tomorrow, watch defenders say, "it's totally legal" or "we had no choice."

They're deflecting.

The UCP wants to exact as much harm on transgender folks as possible. And they know their actions are not justifiable in a democratic society.
