there is no reasonable middle on common courtesy. these people think not beating your wife is a woke conspiracy. there is no amount of un-cringe you can be that will convince them anyone deserves to thrive and be free

Democratic Politicians should be very careful here. While I’m socially liberal independent I vote for zero Republicans. I also have a long memory and any politician who supports the Trump/Ice agenda and votes in favor of it is forever dead to me. At this point you’re either a Nazi or you’re not.

The fact that @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social put more energy in working against Mamdani than he is to stop his caucus from increasing ICE funding is TELLING.

That man does not want to lead, so he should get out of the way.

I understand the impulse to distance yourself from American history. I do. But the atrocities are the actual normal for many communities. And until we confront them as part of a baseline societal flaw and address why they keep happening, they will not stop. They will just continue to shift targets
Those atrocities were un-American, too. Why do the evil-doers get to decide what the fundamental American values are? Let's define them ourselves.
I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

If you have read even a single history of fascism, you are already aware that one thing that its rise has in common in every case is an opposition party that refuses to intervene for fear of looking weak or putting the left into power

"America" is forty billionaires and twenty racists in their service doing everything they can to own the world.

AMERICANS are a collection of the doggedly oppressed and the happily oppressed as different as any other oppressed population. 30% of us have been trying for centuries.
January 21, 2026 at 7:09 PM
It'd be hard to identify a cross-demographic general sub-population that is simultaneously *less* responsible for these atrocities and *more* impacted by and powerless to change the present situation than authors, artists, & indie creators... 😣🤦
im gonna be honest, its going to be very fucking annoying if i start seeing the "BOYCOTT ALL AMERICANS" shit, IE boycotting every author, artist, indie creator, etc

Democrats had a quarter century, with multiple legislative windows to oppose this. They didn't. They relentlessly funnelled more and more money and power to the police state they overwhelmingly voted to expand.

They don't oppose fascism on principle, only its aesthetics and vibe.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but this debacle won't end w/ him being ousted. It won't end with the removal of the cadre of crooks & political "elite" that surrounds & supports him. It only ends w/ a complete rejection of the idiotology that elected & empowered him.
Think decades, not years.

BUT ALSO asking people to put every single thing they're doing online so that you (whether you is a person outside of the u.s. or a person in a currently less affected area) can judge whether they're doing a good enough job is uhhhh. i can hope you would understand why that is a terrible idea.

1. In a major victory, Democrats have managed to get all anti-trans riders stripped from the final appropriations bills.

This includes HHS and Ed, which had the worst provisions in congressional history.

If it passes, it will be a big win for 2026.

Democrats Successfully Strip All Anti-Trans Riders From Final Appropriations Bills
The HHS and Education bills once contained the most sweeping anti-trans provisions in congressional history. Now they contain none.

On that note:

Trans authors (I mean authors who are trans, NOT cis people who write about trans people), drop your book links here and I'll try to repost as many as I can throughout the day.

Cis people: Repost trans authors' book links.

Cis people who want to complain about being excluded: gtfo
Being a trans author is fucking weird right now. Hell is actively unfolding all around us but I still need to be like, "hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book? It won't make anything better, but it's kinda fun?"

So....hey, everyone, wanna buy my silly little queer book?

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

YES THIS INCLUDES THE CROSSWORD APP
NYT ran 11 stories on trans athletes in 2 days including one about brett kavanaugh’s special POV as a girls’ basketball coach. they sent 6 people to scotus to write up their victory lap & meanwhile this is how far you needed to scroll yesterday to find coverage of ICE in MN.

stop giving them money.
