The onus for stopping a genocide is on the party committing the genocide. The onus is not on the victims of the genocide to end it by meeting certain conditions. This should not even need to be said.

Israel's closure of the Rafah border is a deliberate retaliation tied to delays in the return of deceased hostages.

The "show-your-papers" policy sure feels ominous, even from the safe distance of another country.

It's not a direct equivalent to 1930s Germany - not yet, anyway - but it seems designed to instil fear by normalising surveillance and vulnerability, particularly for people in marginalised groups.

Wow, wow, wow. This has always been legally possible but the law has virtually never been enforced — and now this is the SECOND case I've heard of in the last month (first involving a person with a green card) of a noncitizen being charged for failure to carry their papers.

The optics contradict the NACC's purpose - it's functioning as a gatekeeper rather than a watchdog.

The unlawful Robodebt scheme presented an ideal test case, and instead of transparency, the NACC defaulted to secrecy and delay, undermining its credibility entirely.
