Bring a vegetarian/vegan dish to the potluck, or whatever.

People who eat meat can eat it any time, limiting the ability of people on a more restrictive diet is not cool.
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Bear in mind: it has ever been thus!

There's no golden age when information was immaculate & the people devoted to imbibing it all. The midcentury US, with its major newspapers & three networks, was where the basic survey research demonstrating how little citizens know about politics was conducted
You cannot rationally govern an electorate guided by hallucinations
Yep. If voters aren't making choices based in actual reality then democracy cannot function

there's an old stereotype of china as outcompeting america because of masses of cheap labor. but as michael pettis puts it, contemporary chinese firms don't act as if labor is free. they act as if capital is free
“Yang Jiemin, VP of the state-owned company behind the port, said its highly automated operations require 60% fewer workers than traditional ports. It underscores one advantage Chinese companies have in deploying AI versus the U.S.: no independent labor unions.” www.wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-r... (🎁🔗)

These data generate the kind of graph that political scientists love: monotonically decreasing/increasing series across easily observable & politically salient categories.

District courts have low partisan divides on ruling against Trump, large ones at the circuit level, & near perfect at SCOTUS
District court judges are engaged in a bipartisan project of [forgive me] actually calling balls and strikes. Republican circuit judges are largely going full-tilt partisan.

In an MMORPG, me and a friend would send each other fish through the in-game mail, attached with the acronym FBP (fish by post).

Also, I love getting to explain what „mit Musik“ in the German menu means.
* In 1935, two Midwest postmasters held a much-publicized "cheese duel" over an ongoing argument about whether or not it was acceptable/legal to send stinky blocks of Limburger in the mail.

With the hojillion of landmines that have come out in just the last couple of weeks…

Yeah, Halligan being invalidated as ever being the US Attorney for EDVA is the best possible world for the government.

I hope they appeal and win.

And yet, in the rough and tumble world of criminal litigation, a win is a win."

This is why everyone knows that the USA economic situation isn't reflective of the individual resident’s economic situation.

Half of the market is companies selling to companies they’ve invested in because the companies buying their stuff are the best performing returns.
