Very interesting: Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu (who's retiring soon) won't apply equal protection to invalidate discrimination against the poor because she's afraid of giving SCOTUS an opportunity to further weaken the 14th Amendment. Remarkably candid. www.courts.wa.gov/opinions/pdf...

Miller is so extreme he is losing part of the American right: Joe Rogan "calls it “horrific” to arrest “normal, regular people that have been here for 20 years” in “front of their kids.”"

This articulation of what belonging and community means in America captures something fundamental:

NPR carefully avoids characterizing Trump's post, as if it's perfectly reasonable to think Rob Reiner is responsible for his own murder because he didn't support Trump. NPR does quote Marjorie Taylor Greene's criticism of the post, which means she's showing more decency than NPR.

100% correct. We set expectations based on a minority of full-time student living on campus, supported by family. And then when those expectations are unrealistic for the many more students who have to work to support themselves, have dependents, unstable housing situations, etc., we blame them.
Most college students are not that. Increasingly they are engaged in carework, have full-time jobs, or are otherwise responsible for things that they were not some fifteen or twenty years ago. Indeed, only the MOST privileged student has the time or space to fulfill the image of a full time student.

The point of a criminal defense is to hold the State accountable to our laws. Law enforcement must respect *everyone's* constitutional rights, even if someone is accused of a crime. And the State must be pushed to meet its burden of proof, "beyond a reasonable doubt." This is vital work.

Beautiful study to illustrate the emotional life of social media: Reducing exposure to out-group cues reduces how much you hate the out-group.
Some social media algorithms are feeding us antidemocratic attitudes and intergroup hostility.

But a new field experiment finds that an algorithmic feed can reduce out-group animosity & affective polarization by down-ranking this hostile political content.

This is exactly what the bosses who put Trump into office were trying to achieve. Crushing the tight labor market from the early Biden years that gave workers - for the first time in my adult lifetime - leverage over their bosses.
NEW

US labor market flows remained sluggish in October data released this morning, as hiring slowed to nearly the lowest level since early COVID

The hiring rate fell to 3.2%, layoffs rose to 1.2%, quits fell to 1.8%, and job openings rose to 4.6%

Its independence is meant to insulate it from political pressure so it can check corporate power and protect the American people.
