BY THE WAY

If you've updated to Windows 11 recently, you're probably on version 25H2.

There's a new setting in Settings: Privacy & Security.

Scroll aaaaaaaalll the way to the bottom and you'll see "Text and Image Generation."

TURN IT OFF.

A stunning short story by Arden Baker now up in full over on @thedailytomorrow.bsky.social. Not just one of the best stories I've read for TDT, but one of the best I've read all year. Loved it!

My band launched a new album this weekend, which in 2025 involves laying your wares at the feet of the mighty uncaring algobots and hoping the clumsy fools accidentally kick something into orbit.

This song got a decent kick, so maybe you'll like it too. Or would you have the algobots be wrong??

The band I'm in have a new album coming out on Friday. Friday! A bit of Scottish indie pop, what's not to like? Over on our bandcamp, you can have a listen to a couple of songs and maybe even buy a copy...? Could happen.

New story day! Many thanks to Macabre Magazine for publishing Midnight Ferry With Vending Machines, which is about the dangers of bringing a wheel of cheese aboard a boat.

Baffled that different writing apps can't agree on word counts. If our fancy adding machines can't even reliably add a few thousand words together, what's all this built on? You're telling me they *guess*? Truly we have built ourselves a house of cards. How many cards? There's no way to know!

Look you just have to make the cool weird shit that excites you. You must. In this world besieged by bland, scrubbed boring, computer slop, you must. Make the thing you’re embarrassed to make, the thing that feels “too much” because otherwise we get drowned in a sea of cowardly work made by a button

Increasingly convinced the main damage cell phones have done to creativity isn't decreased attention spans or what not but the elimination of productive boredom. Inspiration comes from the mind filling the void inside. Hard to make art when you're constantly silencing the silence with "content."
