Here it is, the story I've been burying myself in for months. The Canary islands are special to me but in Tenerife I found La Orotava, and local wine, and I fell in love all over again.

But can I go back knowing tourism is destroying, has destroyed, so much?

An awful moment today when we walked to one of our favourite shops to realise it was gone. Burned down last year, almost to the day. I had totally forgotten, everything was still there in my mind. Met by a gap in the world, and the memory of the owner who passed away in the fire. Here's to you, Ben.

Related: I once interviewed an ‘author’ who was later found out to have plagiarised their book.

I never ran their interview because of this discovery, but was also quite relieved not to, since their answers were dull as hell and the whole thing was like pulling teeth.
If the writer’s eyes light up when asked, “why did the character do that?” then it’s real.

The asthma riddle continues. Doctor says I can't have a blue inhaler because they have changed the way they medicate asthma. I said that's fine, but I basically have acute rather than chronic asthma. I just need a reliever for exercise. Hmm, they said. That's a tricky one.

Then they sent me home.
