Really worth reading the full essay.

Graeber argues that capitalism didn’t replace slavery -- it rebranded it. A key mistake of the mode-of-production model was reducing “production” to making things instead of also producing people and social relations that constitute social reproduction.
Modern capitalism has more in common with Feudalism and the oldstyle slave-system than most people realize.

From: davidgraeber.org/articles/tur...
"In the case of slave mode of production,
the exploiters directly own the primary
producers; in feudalism, both have complex
relations to the land, but the lords use direct
jural-political means to extract a surplus; in
capitalism, the exploiters own the means of
production and the primary producers are
thus reduced to selling their labor power.
The state, in each case, is essentially an
apparatus of coercion that backs up these
property rights by force."

Encouraging to see: rewilding works and recovery isn’t abstract -- it’s measurable in wings and colors! Color diversity signals healthier forests. Love this.
"Rainforest that has been regenerating for 30 years after being used as cattle pasture showed a remarkable increase in butterfly colour diversity."

It turns out rewilding even has the power to restore the colours human activities are draining from the natural world.

As forests are cut down, butterflies are losing their colours
The insects’ brilliant hues evolved in lush ecosystems to help them survive. Now they are becoming more muted to adapt to degraded landscapes – and they are not the only things dulling down

I have so much respect for Greta Thunberg because she easily could have coasted on speaking gigs and Davos appearances for the rest of her life
When solidarity and humanitarian work are labeled extremism, the aim is to control what is permissible to say and do. That’s how authoritarian governments seek to constrict the Overton window.
The problem is that anyone working towards justice is slowly being labeled a "terrorist."

This is happening in Israel. It's happening in the US. And it's even happening in the UK and Germany.

Don't you all see it?
On what grounds are these courageous humanitarians with their flotilla of baby formula and such being deemed “terrorists”? Anyone accusing Greta Thunberg, one of the most internationally famous ppl for her integrity, of nefarious motivations, only reflects poorly on themselves
Emma Goldman mention! Reminder: The state can remove people, not ideas; dissidents build movements that outlast regimes. Deportations are performative cruelty, security theater and public spectacle to distract from policy failure.

"As Emma Goldman hoped, and Louis Post later demonstrated, the American people are capable of turning the tide against repression — even if that effort feels hopeless in the moment."

A reminder that they are not entering Israeli waters, but Palestinian waters.

Israel intends to violate international law once again.

Few if any experts know more about the deliberate use of starvation as a war crime than Alex de Waal. If he says it's happening, it's so.
ALEX DE WAAL: So, let me say that I've been working on this field of famine, food crisis and humanitarian action for more than 40 years, and there is no case, over those four decades, of such minutely engineered, closely monitored, precisely designed mass starvation of a population as is happening in Gaza today.

En ekstra kronikk i ferien. Dette er et slags forsøk på et oppgjør med det som skjedde etter 22.juli. Også med meg selv. Jeg skjønte ikke alvoret før etter massakren. 22.juli 2011 endret svært mye for meg. Andre gav Fjordman bokstipend. Noen sviktet før, andre etter.
Vi sviktet 22. juli – vi gjør det fortsatt

🚨BREAKING: We’re deeply concerned at the use of counter terrorism powers to target protest groups.

This is the latest in a succession of measures taken by the UK government to clamp down on protest in the UK.
