corollary, when someone working in a waffle house is kind to you, you know that's a genuine human interaction. i was crying slightly in a waffle house once and the lady made a whipped cream smiley face on my waffle and i will never forget her as long as i shall live
Everybody needs to take Waffle House's customer service as a model. They hate the day you were born. They'll take this outside. But they'll serve you up some smothered covered hasbrowns that make you weep for joy.
super grateful that a lot of my service industry jobs were at the kind of places where the customers kinda like it if you’re mean or grumpy at them i did the hell out of those jobs

Drafting my sequel to DEAD RINGER (an 1892 telephone operator tries to solve the murder of a ghost who comes through her console), featuring a frazzled haunted object collector heroine & obsessive map collector hero, yesterday I wrote an evocative few paragraphs about caressing topographical maps.
Given the state of the world right now, if you managed to write even twenty words this week about people being tender, or in love, or having rampant sex, or leading each other to a fade-to-black bedroom, I am proud of you.

The white ginger lily (Hedychium coronarium) in my garden has burst into bloom. It's nearly as tall as me, w/several feisty hummingbirds dividing time between devouring delicious nectar & challenging eachother to duels. My little sword-faced dudes, there's enough to go around, really!
