Absolutely one of my fave films tbh #art #horror
Illustration of the film Jacob’s ladder from 1990. The top is a panel of Jacob with his back to the fence and string spotlight on him. Second is the serene from the film on the train with the ghostly looking doctor looking out the back. The bottom is a pinkish red panel, dog tags with no name and string. The title of the film is in large bold letters.

To my friends who are trans.

Did you ever feel physical pain when you realized your body… didn’t match who you are? Aches? Throbbing pulses. Cramps in your stomach?

As a historian, I can certify that we are in the bad times. But bad times eventually end.
In the meantime:
• Figure out a small way to help someone
• Figure out a small way to fight back
• Figure out a small place to find joy
• Figure out a small way to grow and thrive

And do it often.

Book cover for the YA book ICEBREAKER by A.L. Graziadei showing the two male main protagonist facing each other and holding onto each others collar. Digital art of my original characters Aran and Tao as young adults out at night in their local nyc neighborhood kissing. Tao sits on a bicycle and Aran bends down slightly to kiss him. Mock cover of Suzanne Samin and my upcoming graphic novel. The title still r wads Fear Of Falling but we changed it now to Wherever I’m With You.

The cover shows a brick house fall and Aran and Tao sitting on the rooftop, their legs dangling down the edge, and in big letters underneath them it reads “fear of falling” Digital art of original characters Aran and Tao as young teenagers on a hot summer day walking down the streets in their local nyc neighborhood and playing around with a basketball.

When the world is closing in and threatening to drag you back to the place where you can be a living corpse, yes desperation can be more terrifying than

In your stories: is desperation scarier than the supernatural?

Everyone equally, but i would like to focus more on terrifying people who abuse power dynamics and perpetuate systems where they don’t have to do anything to pay for their crimes

Everyone should be scared, rich and poor alike. The aspects of dread and terror can not be bought off.

Who do you scare? As a writer, it's our chance to bite back, perhaps.

As a rule, I do not write rich characters. But also as a rule, the poorer they are, the better their outcome is. If you see an ex-con as a character in a story *cough spoiler* then he's going to make it out. I'll fight tooth and nail to make sure he does.

Do you write horror that scares the poor, the wealthy or everyone equally?

#HorrorWritersChat lol I'm not sure how to answer this, to be honest.

My setting is post Civil War-era America, so scarcity is a way of life. However, if we're talking scarcity in things my characters need to stay on mission, they have that problem too.

Q2
How does scarcity or deprivation shape the worlds you build in your stories?
judedeluca.bsky.social
I write about characters who were deprived of the means to deal with trauma when it was still fresh and how it lingered in their minds until they were in a space where they could finally recognize “actually this was incredibly fucked up.”

Most often it will be rape.

Lack of sanity figures into some of my stories. It sometimes goes hand in hand with loneliness. Other examples involve Locked In Syndrome, where you are deprived the ability to move or speak; and Grylla, the Icelandic holiday hag, shows scarcity of empathy along with contempt.

I write superhero horror and 90s nostalgia horror. I try to make my characters asexual and when I’m feeling kinky I prefer weight gain and big beautiful men.

I’m so poor my house went into foreclosure twice and it took three years to sell it because of all the debts my mother left when she died.

Oh right then here we go, if it glitches I'll wait till it's back up then fire the next.
Can't say fairer than that. Hi #HorrorWritersChat, let's talk riches. Or poverty. Moral or cash, I don't mind which.
Horror is one of the more egalitarian genres I think. More room for poor...

I write gothic, paranormal, & historical horror alls inspired by my Choctaw-Irish heritage.

How poor am I? I spent my last two paychecks on my sick cat, got my electric turned off, & then found $20 only to discover two front tires ripped to shreds. Payday is next week. 😂🫠
