The tournament is in full swing. Heroes have fallen. Darkseid is near. The 32 champions have been chosen, and now they must compete to earn the Heart of Apokolips. The first challenge? Battling across a deadly arena to acquire new weapons of war. Superman has his doubts that the Justice League is doing the right thing, but there are others who have no problem killing to get what they want.

In the dying days of December 1994, Marvel Comics dropped X-Men Alpha #1, a double-sized, chromium-cover-wrapped one-shot introducing the world to the "Age of Apocalypse." Following a multi-part story that saw Professor Xavier's son Legion travel back in time to kill Magneto before the X-Men formed, a mission Legion thoroughly botched, accidentally killing his dad instead, reality as readers knew it had been rewritten.

I've seen this image of Black Panther going around, but didn't know until today that it was from a bicentennial Marvel calendar that's being recreated for 2026 by Abrams. All of the images are sufficiently weird, but this one is probs the oddest. tainthemeat.wordpress.com/2013/12/15/t...

1. Don't send death threats to comic creators
2. Comic writers and artists need to be more thoughtful about the implications of SA in their storylines. Just because a character experienced a status quo in a previous story 40 yrs ago, that doesn't mean it's a good idea now.

![Universal was said to be extremely hands on during the entire process, and reportedly also not keen on Lin’s vision for the final action set-piece, an especially over-the-top sequence that involved Dante using a giant excavator-like machine to wreak havoc — a VFX-heavy climax that would drive up the cost of a project whose production budget was already well north of $300 million and climbing, making “Fast X” one of the most expensive movies ever made.
“It was really the ending that needed work — it’s difficult to describe, but this machine eats things…the bad guy goes down, gets into this machine, comes out and starts eating cars, and it’s like a ‘Transformers’ movie. It was totally out of context with the movie, I thought,” says Alexander Witt, a veteran second-unit director and cinematographer (“Gladiator,” “Casino Royale,” “Skyfall”) who was now back in the “Fast” franchise after overseeing “Fast Five’s” train heist. “I thought it was a little too Marvel, and the problem was it would have been all CG. Although we ended up with all CG in the end.
