We’re only now, very belatedly, trying to rein in social media and all the harms it’s foisted on our societies. What many governments don’t seem to realize is that chatbots and image generators are repeating that cycle on steroids. Action must be taken now.

Until being blocked, i followed a consultant-type DNC wannabee (who used to make sense in 2019). She & her fans love to trash non-voters as dumb, blaming them for much that's really on Dem leaders for failing to inspire them (& supporting genocide). So sad...
A lot of people are pretty freaked out by the current political state of affairs and carrying on because they don't know what else to do, except out one foot in front of the other.

And I think a lot of Very Online folks mistake that for "normie" indifference
I'm part of a study comparing a new type of aortic heart valve with two currently used ones, a side note to my more-dramatic-than-expected TAVI procedure two weeks ago. Although i haven't heard from them yet; perhaps my complications might disqualify me.

I actually don't think Canadians should prepare to make sacrifices so the military budget and AI investments can be scaled up, ultimately benefitting private contractors and big businesses.
Yes! Thank you. For so many reasons. I generally won't post something without a link to an original source.

A not insignificant number of people knew the demolition was coming, including people at the White House Historical Association, and did nothing to stop it.
I see that @whitehousehistory.bsky.social put out a statement yesterday stating that they were able to complete a “comprehensive digital scanning project” to document the East Wing, and that the historic artifacts have been preserved and stored.
Yup
Watergate: "Follow the money."

Trump: "Give me $230 million."

Investigative journalism is so much easier now.
Rick Steves is a true mensch.
Fellow Americans!

I’m happy to announce that, thanks to you, I’m sending $100,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union (@aclu.org) to help them defend something that truly Makes America Great: our civil liberties.

I'll believe it when i see it. Cop culture is cop culture, no matter what the official policy is.

Another reminder of how awesome Ursula K Le Guin was.
Ursula Le Guin's 1999 letter to Michael Powell, the owner of Powell's Books in Portland. Powell's workers unionized in 2000 and have faced some union-busting measures since, but were the first contract in ILWU Local 5.
Glad to see this; i hadn't known. When i lived in Portland i was part of a small demonstration about their union busting. Response was generally, "Powell's is so great. How can you criticize it?"
@parismarx.com, what letter are you talking about? Probably 10% of what i see on Bluesky deals with AI, so some clarification would be helpful.
@#$%^ dammit. I was so hoping that the three quasi-leftist parties would cooperate and run one mayoral candidate, and ten council candidates, between them as a slate. Talking to Orr personally, he agreed.

Oh well, another half-decade with Sim destroying the city.
Could you elaborate on which letter?

Racist are so confusing that way
The people who think Confederate monuments erected during the 50s are history don’t seem to have any issue with the wrecking ball taken to the White House
"One of the proposed sites is a 54-storey, 1,136-unit building in downtown Vancouver, located at Pacific and Hornby streets where non-market units would be targeted for families with annual household incomes between $90,000 and $194,000."

"Non-market" supposedly means affordable. Incredible.

Canadians deserve clarity and transparency. That’s why I’m calling on the government to fully explain the basis for the reported entry ban on @kneecapceol.bsky.social — no one should face arbitrary or politicized immigration decisions. The public needs answers. 🇨🇦

1. Trump grows even more unpopular.
2. ???
3. The country is saved.

What is 2? Can someone flesh it out for me?

The whole point of rigging this system is that you're insulated from public opinion!
Partially right! Since, collectively, approximately 50% of average teenagers are female, it's TRUE that, collectively, "the average teenager in this country has 50% of the sperm count, 50% of the testosterone (excluding the female variety) of a 65 year old man."🤣As to those childless parents, hmm...
RFK Jr: "Today the average teenager in this country has 50% of the sperm count, 50% of the testosterone of a 65 year old man. Our girls are hitting puberty 6 years early ... our parents aren't having children."
