Another reminder of how awesome Ursula K Le Guin was.
Ursula Le Guin's 1999 letter to Michael Powell, the owner of Powell's Books in Portland. Powell's workers unionized in 2000 and have faced some union-busting measures since, but were the first contract in ILWU Local 5.

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

She's right. The "jail" talk is pernicious nonsense.

And there are real criticisms to be made of the RCMP that aren't just blanket slurs.

But you all know that. I was just wanted to give May credit here for speaking sense in single syllables.

Good evening. We estimate that between 4.2 and 7.6 million people turned out for the No Kings Day demonstrations held around the country on Saturday. This makes Oct 18 very likely the biggest single-day U.S. protest event since 1970. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/second-no-...

What a great idea. We could also do this for the library where I work, or the public library where I'm a regular patron....
31 DAYS OF HORROR! every day this month i'm going to recommend a different horror film available through Toronto Public Library, via streaming services Hoopla or Kanopy.
In case anyone's interested, here are a couple of collections of historical propaganda posters (and a cheeky Canadian example).
