hi everyone, I wrote a new thing. I briefly propose & explore the potential for a "bounty" model for news & digital media and how it relates to news, paywalls, subscriptions AI, PIVOT TO WIKI, and more. let me know what you think, unless you think it's really bad, then don't say anything.
the bounty model - pivot point mini-wiki - Obsidian Publish
this page proposes a new financial model for information sources. as i see it, this new model makes the most sense when applied to wiki formats or scientific journals, and less so when applied to bre…

My Neighbor's Rich, He Throws Crazy Parties To Impress His Ex - and Is Kinda Cute?!
On the other hand I think it would be very funny to retitle literary fiction light novel style. “Oh No! This Author Stand-In is Unhappily Married”
This attitude is how you end up with light novel titles.

I would like a Democratic party that does, on occasion, care who you voted for. or at least frame it as a "you have the chance to fix your mistake"

“I’ve always said, I don’t care who you voted for,” Democratic nominee Aftyn Behn told CNN in an interview.

“I don’t care what political party you belong to, but if you are upset about the cost of living and the chaos of Washington, then I’m your candidate, and I welcome you with open arms.”
How far can Democrats ride the affordability argument? A progressive running in deep-red Tennessee is about to find out | CNN Politics
Aftyn Behn, the Democratic nominee for next week's special election in a heavily Republican Tennessee congressional district, has made affordability concerns a centerpiece of her campaign messaging – mirroring the playbook of the party's victorious cand...

Kelly for VP with the assigned responsibility of "identifying and removing fascist war criminals from our DoD & armed forces / restoring honor and experience"
Kelly has a great story, but he's not bowling anybody over with his charisma. And that's a combo that works better on the bottom half of the ticket than the top.

so I'd like to point out that Maduro is an illegitimate, illiberal dictator and part of the reason we're here now is a failure of the Biden admin to do more than tepid recognition of the socdem Guaido as legit president.

other people should not be named Marx that should be illegal
This is a really good thread about fandom, art, culture, engagement and escapism in our current context. It reminds me that I should get back to reading Marx's new book "Blank Space" that explores why, in the West at least, culture has stagnated and gone into a cycle of remakes with no innovation.

Fail them then. College is a privilege.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Unscientific, wrong and stupid. Fuck you. Learn something.
Ppl wanna keep building homes to solve the housing crisis.

ENOUGH HOUSING ALREADY EXISTS. ENOUGH EMPTY BUILDINGS ALREADY EXIST.

Make it AFFORDABLE. ACCESSIBLE.

This is murder. Hegseth thinks he will get away with it because the people around him are more committed to aiding and abetting his crimes than upholding the rule of law. I wouldn't take that bet if I were him, or the people around him. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...
Hegseth order on first Caribbean boat strike, officials say: Kill them all
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a verbal order to kill all crew members in the Sept. 2 strike on a suspected drug boat. Navy SEALs fired a second missile.

I started a list of things in my own Logseq notes in the beginning of the administration when there was a new thing every day, but fell behind and stopped updating it.

I’ve been meaning to sort through the Trump action tracker and organize it all in that same system, but I just haven’t had time.

Thinking about what @jortscity.bsky.social was saying, people love justicepoasting but in 10 months, let alone 3 years, who will remember Northwestern did this when whatever fresh hell has been unleashed takes our minds?

In other words, we should start making lists with sources.
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

I find this sort of messaging so much better than insisting that the USA is somehow poor in aggregate.

if we're making lists I would like to see em
the problem is that i'm pretty sure we aren't actually making lists

like
we should

but we aren't
If you’re an institution in civil society it is exceedingly important to realize:

We are making lists

given how unpopular Trump is, it’s insane that civil society/universities/law firms are still asking themselves “how do I stay on Trump’s good side” rather than “how do I avoid facing consequences for complying with Trump’s illegal demands”

This is why I'm *mildly* annoyed with Mark Kelly et al. We have a very specific set of illegal orders that we should definitely be telling our service members to refuse and they left it at "if it feels wrong, start playing jazz with the chain of command"

It would have been more effective to say it!
So I'm pretty sure a three star knows that an order to strike alleged combatants who are hors de combat is facially illegal, in case anyone's still having any hangups on whether Bradley needs to be in the dock after this

Paper finds that the project resulted in the opening up other, lower cost, housing on the island, benefiting the housing market overall.

This is fundamentally Nazism. The idea that different peoples than the favored races carry degradation in their very genes, that they cannot strive to become better because biology compels them to be worse. It’s not just repugnant, it’s a bald faced lie.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization
