This was a hard-fought contract, and for the first time in recent history, we now have an actual system for annual raises at the Daily News.

A monumental win with this ratification vote.

(And Kerry is the best street reporter around, brotha.)
May the history of the Daily News, when it is written, reflect that upon unanimous ratification of the first contract in more than three decades, the next words uttered in the Zoom call were those of street reporter Kerry Burke: “Okay, I got a homicide. I gotta go.”

Why can't modern mayors just be normal about living in Gracie Mansion?
Just live in a free mansion without making a whole thing out of it for God's sake.

Not gonna link it, but can CBS really call this an "exclusive" when the @nydailynews.com got the same interview a day earlier? (It was our wood!)

"George is unhoused and it took about a week for his family to learn of his condition."

Unmentioned -- the family found out thru a Daily News reporter.

WHAT COULD GO WRONG
Police around the country are using AI-powered tools to sort through evidence and perform administrative tasks.

But this police department appears to be one of the first to substitute hand-drawn suspect sketches with AI-generated images.
Have you seen this (AI-generated) man? Police swap suspect sketches for AI.
Police in a Phoenix suburb appear to be the first department in the nation to use AI for suspect sketches, a practice that raises concerns among some experts.

New York City went 12 days without a murder in November / December. That's tied for the longest stretch in history, according to the NYPD. As someone who was here when there were 6+ murders per day in this town, it continues to amaze me how safe the place is.

It’s good when we get notes like these to remind us.
