The Eagles deserve credit for their reputation of running like a baseball team in how power is divided. Now they need to run themselves like a soccer team in being as cold blooded and unsentimental as possible to a coaching staff that can only point to past accolades for its defense now.

Thank you, Terry Smith, would you like to be assistant head coach and never make on field decisions again thbaks

I want to know who on the Eagles coaching staff made the decision to stop using 5 man route combos. Of all the things that are line related, that’s the one that seems the least likely to be driven by Stoutland to me, based on everything we’ve seen since 2013.

The success they've had (going two of the last three Super Bowls) actually serves to highlight/exacerbate the issue rather than providing a balm.
It seems like a lot of national NFL writers -- and even some of the more troll-ish local ones -- are acting like this Eagles fan frustration came out of nowhere.

We've been annoyed with the awful offensive gameplans & wasting of talent all season. This is just the culmination.

Eagles score 15 points against a team with no LBs, two weeks after scoring 16 points against a team with no DBs, and a week after blowing a 21 point lead against a defense that needs to play up to be average. Whether or not the Bears or Lions or Cowboys are good or not is a McMuffin.

Eagles offense currently 17th in EPA/drive and 26th in success rate.

Here are all the times over the past 20 years the Eagles offense has finished in the bottom half of the league in both EPA/drive and success rate:

2012 (Andy Reid fired)
2015 (Chip Kelly fired)
2020 (Doug Pederson fired)

“The coach gets to stay at least 3 years after winning a championship, even if he had nothing to do with said championship and shows no direction for leading this team” is the real American exceptionalism. An EPL team would’ve fired Sirianni after the 1st Giants game

Of all the things that “it’s going to look the way Jalen Hurts wants it to look” could mean, this seems the most easily explainable
“Who is behind the relative lack of Jalen runs in the offense this year” is a question I would love to know the answer to because whoever it is has gotta go. (And if it’s Jalen himself then you’ve got a bigger problem on your hands.)
The designed QB runs open up the offense. (Also, hell of a play by A.J.)

On sneaks, #Eagles had consistently--for years now--used TWO pushers (Saquon+Goedert), who in effect protected Jalen from guys coming in from the sides.
After the fails vs Detroit, they debuted this single pusher look last week in Dallas, which left the sides more vulnerable.

Fun fact: Doug Pederson said Mike Groh and the rest of the offensive assistant coaches would return for the 2020 season, exactly one day before Groh and Carson Walch were both fired

One wrinkle to this I neglected to mention, and I think others often miss too. Doug also faced this same test six years ago and passed it (when they fired Mike Groh). It was the second time they tested him that he flunked. Nick’s only been tested once so far.
He’s going to be put through the same test he was two years ago (albeit with an OC he had less history with) and that Doug was five years ago. That’ll decide it

You can say it's the OC's fault and sure it's that too, but the HC gives them nothing. He's not a great game planner, he doesn't call plays, their vibes are rancid, his in-game decision making veers between cowardly and incoherent, they're undisciplined, and everyone seems to hate each other.

The offense’s chickenshit conservative philosophy is an implicit expectation that Daddy Vic Fangio can always bail them out of their bad decisions. It’s an embarrassment

One thing 2023 showed was that the HC isn't smart enough to pull the team out of a tailspin despite overwhelming talent and front office support. At least he could point the finger at Sean Desai that season. This is all in his purview.

After today's performance, the Eagles offense ranks 28th in success rate.

They are producing a positive play at a lower rate than offenses like the Saints and the Jets.

It's the worst offensive success rate for an Eagles team through Week 13 in the last 20 years.

Howie Roseman has basically nothing to do with this team’s shortcomings and it’s super rare you can say that about the GM

The Brian Johnson offense finished 8th in yards/game, 8th in rushing yards per game, and 7th in points per game. Brian Johnson was fired.
This offense is so much worse than that offense. Comparing the two is unfair to Brian Johnson (who also stunk)

To me, the "first year in the system" stuff is wildly overplayed with Patullo too. He's been the PGC since Sirianni came on staff. Stout runs the run game stuff. He's just bad! There's nothing more to learn!
The difference is we’ve seen the QB play elite in two super bowls under two different regimes. What’s KP done?

With that being said, they ran on 2nd and 10, and had Cam Latu line up as a WR and had AJ Brown run five yards on 3rd and 8.
Worst Jalen game of the year by far.
